Beltline trim repair with inner tube

Hi all!

Well I decided to forgo replacing the Beltline trim on my 06s for now. Always one to find a way to make something in an unconventional manner I decided to try a bicycle inner tube to replace the broken and cracked seal that everyone with a convertible eventually must contend with. Here are a couple of photos of the finished product. I’m not completely happy with the outcome as this was a trial attempt to determine if it was even possible.

I am going to regroup and find a better way of making it work. I will then do a complete step-by-step write up with photos. I believe it’s possible to make this look very professional, but it will take a little thought. I did this in only two hours. I intended this as an experiment. I will now try and perfect.

Not bad, I went another route.

More info below. I did use rubber strips that I glued with exterior black car contact cement under the light.

Yes I saw that and I remember you saying that an inner tube might work. I believe that with enough thought the tube could work well. Just have to hone out all the bugs. I’ve already thought of a couple of new things to try.
