Wind deflector: source for replacement fabric?

The fabric on my car's wind deflector has a couple small holes so I'd like to replace it. Looks like the fabric is held in with a flexible plastic bead in a groove much like a house window screen. I can't imagine it would be that hard to change out but I need some fabric. Has anyone sourced an alternative that comes close? Thanks

Hello,

I have the same issue and some people get the fabric from a jo anns fabric and its the same stuff they use in screen on porches but softer, then pop out that bead, I was going to do it but have not had the chance. I heard of people doing it but have never seen it.

You would have to pull it tight and work it around. What some people do its find a gen 1 or gen 2 wind deflector and swap it.

I've done a little interweb snooping and found a reference to 'midge mesh' but it appears to be available only in UK and AU. Further searching found this. I haven't investigated much further yet but it's a start.

I've only got one small hole but it's starting to weigh on me.

My car is in storage for maybe another month and I didn't take the wind deflector out before putting it away, so I can't look at the fabric. After not thinking about the car for a couple months I'm starting to put together a list of what I want to do to it this spring.

I was thinking the fabric is more elastic-y than window screen. I was thinking home speaker grill fabric might be similar if it is in fact as I remember it.

With the cost of a new deflector I would think someone has replaced their fabric. The holes in mine are in one of the horizontal sections so its only visible to me or when stopped. Still it feels sloppy to have those holes so I'd like to repair it. I suppose since its the horizontal area and not the vertical I could even find a more opaque fabric.

I had a couple of holes and tried to get the bead out to take a fabric sample to match it. I tried, the upholsterer that did my interior tried and guess what...it doesn't come out. I totally screwed mine trying to get it apart. Bought a new one (literally) on EBay for half the price of the dealer.

So the bead won’t come out of the slot? That’s good to know. Perhaps it’s glued in?

I may may need to wait until I get my car out before ordering material then. The holes aren’t large enough to risk ruining it.
