Can't use convenience options after O2 sensor replacement
 

2006 R52 Mini Cooper s Convertible
I just had the oxygen sensor replaced by the local deal on warranty. Dealer had to reprogram the car. Now the convenience options - open windows and top with key remote - no longer work. Took the car back to the dealer who advised that since I had installed an after market radio, they cannot program the convenience options back on.
I find the convenience options to be useful, but don't know if its worth installing the original radio back - which may be a hassle - just to get the features back.
Anyway I thought I would ask here to see if anyone has some thoughts.

Why did they have to reprogram the car when they replaced the o2 sensor. Why would an aftermarket radio prevent them from re-enabling the features?

If the car was "reprogrammed" or they updated the software....then you options, like daytime running lights etc must be reprogrammed....not sure about the keys, but it sounds like your dealer is my xing up gen1 and gen2 info.....
The radio on a gen1 car has NOTHING to do with the cars computer/ecu/bcm......

I have no idea why they needed to reprogram the car after replacing the O2 sensor or why the radio would be needed. I hope ZippyNH is right that the radio has nothing to do with programming, but the dealer seems to insist that it does. Anyone have any thoughts on how to get an official response from Mini?

I posed these questions with the intention for you to ask the dealer. They should be able to tell you.

You can call another dealer and ask the same questions if yours is unable to answer them satisfactorily.

Unless I'm missing something replacing a O2 sensor is as simple and unplugging it, unscrewing it then screwing in the new one and plugging it back in. Takes all of 10 minutes. I'm thinking that they did some reprograming (maybe totally unrelated to the O2 sensor) in an attempt to "do you a solid". lol. IDK, but really, only the dealer can tell you what they did.
