Top goes into "sunroof stage" but won't unlatch to go down
FIRST POST.
I have a 2005 Mini Cooper convertible and it's convertible roof only goes until "sunroof stage". When I click the down roof button again, the windows go down, but the passanger side latch won't fully realase. Plus the driver's side latch has to be manually released. And through all this, the top up roof button just flashes red. Does anybody know why my roof won't fully unlatch? Does anybody know what the problem could be? Any help would be appreciated, thanks. |

Check in the trunk to ensure the two latches are both locked down. These are the levers on the side that let you lift the back up

Also, check the boot tray that it is all the way down and the wee foot on the driver's side is holding down the safety switch.

Like said above, check the micro switch is making contact with the rear shelf and its in the correct position.
Here is a thread that I posted with more info and where to look. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-position.html If this still does not help. Then you will have to start looking at the front lower linkage. These can jam ( not slide ) or snap. at the plastic. Early 2005 convertible will not have the little pegs, if you have the older style, the pegs will just need filed down to install. Thanks ECSTuning, that helps quite a bit. Now that I know what they are called (Front Linkage), I can address the problem correctly.
Well, the Front linkage on the passanger's side isn't fully unlinking. It'll go about halfway through the unlinking process and then it just stops right before I'm able to even manually pull it off. As for the driver's side linkage, I have to manually release it because the plastic snapped. |
Thanks for sharing information, your information are very helpful for me and increase my knowledge.

You are both welcome. :)

ECS, This describes PRECISELY a problem I'm experiencing. our '05 R52, driver's side latch broke (the plastic part). These are definitely the parts I need, but is there a tutorial somewhere detailing their installation? I'm a pretty good DIY-er, but I'll admit that the top on these things has kicked my butt more than once. haha. I'd really like to see how it was done before I just tear into it.

I am here just hit me up i have an r52. Just saw this.
Info here on the front latch https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...tible-top.html You pretty much just replace those in the front note" Early 2005 convertible will not have the little pegs, if you have the older style, the pegs will just need filed down to install." |
I generally dislike the rooftop on my 54 reg smaller than expected one. The sunroof returns, however at that point stops. Whenever I come to close it, there's a horrendous shrieking commotion coming from the back left. I've supplanted the pressure driven repository and the left hand side water powered slam. Value any thoughts. Good wishes.
