Rain Leaking In!
 

We've been having crazy rain for the past few days. I've been working on my other cars this long weekend, so Maggie has had to sit in the rain for a couple of nights. :sad:

Anyway, I have a leak! Water is dripping from behind my glovebox and onto my passenger-side floormat. I caught it in time to mop it up before it got on the carpet.

Any ideas or similar experiences? I am getting ready to pull the glovebox and start searching.

Has the windscreen been replaced?

After a car wash or heavy rain i had a puddle on the passenger side floor mat under the glovebox. Under warranty i took it to the dealer who replaced the passenger door gasket, no more puddle. I was about to take battery out and look for leak because it looked like from windshield battery area, but door weatherstripping repair fixed it.

I was just going to say the main gasket above where the window glass connects to the front A - pillar and roof. This is up right beside the front latching gates.

#6 is the main weather stripping.

Latter Convertibles came with the weather stripping which meet at the top seam has a little drip tray in the rubber itself. It catches the water that drips at the seam with the top up/ windows closed and then tunnels it down the front rubber stripping seam.

* Early MINI Convertibles did not have this. I think it was early 2005 - late 2006 until they updated the part. On heavy rains I would get a steady drip on the carpet from that connection. With the updated weather stripping no more drip.

Older design : Top seal near the A pillar, Near the latching gates. No extra drip tray in the seal.

Newer design, its on the RHD MINI but its the same thing. Drip tray on the rubber weatherstripping near the latch catch.

That two tone interior in the 2nd vert is lush.

You can sometimes use chalk dust to locate leaks, if the dust is washed away, you found your leak path.

Actually, part #12 came loose on me when I washed the car a couple of weeks ago. I tried to stick it back on right, but I suspect it didn't get put back just right.

w35773 - You are welcome for the help. #6 is the whole seal ( with rubber above the a pillar ) with those updated rain trays and the little #12 is referring to the the screw. When there is a circle in the diagram is refers to the hardware. But the near #12 location is the little rubber seal (ear )that snaps just above the A pillar. Check that location for leaks past the seal and down the rubber that insert into the A pillar body slot also. But what I was referring to also is the drip tray between the convertible roof and front seal.

Fixing the lifted rubber strip above the A pillar is usually from a broken clip.

This slip snaps into the top rubber strip then into the location behind it. The clips can snap and thus the ears loosen.

just dropped my car off at Braman Mini in palm beach from a leaking passenger side door. I'm pretty upset a 688 mile car has a leak already. I found this while detailing the interior this past Saturday. Warranty covers it and with a deposit got a 2013 328i as a loaner car. Will update with end result.

The main front window / top seal for the R52 MINI Convertible 2005-2008 is a shared part with the R57 MINI Convertible 2009+. So your is a 2012. The bottom weatherstrip is another part number for the R52 then the R57.

I bet being so new the seal might have not been pressed all the way in from the factory or has a kink. Also since its so new the top might not be making full contact, being the fabric has not stretched for the top.

Sorry it took me so long to update my experience but MINI gave me back my car last Friday. They replaced the passenger side weather stripping. It lightly rained last night in Florida and I checked the carpet today to find no water. The real test will be a consecutive downpour for 2 hours then I will check again. The 328i turbo hybrid bmw loaner car wasn't my kind of car and I'm glad to have my car back. Now if they would return my deposit I left for the loaner car back into my checking account already I will be a happy man.

Also I was happy they didn't give me any crap on my mods. I have a 2013 so I was worried they might try and pull something but not a word was said about them so I'll be installing my intercooler soon enough with confidence.

Let us know how it goes since they replaced number 7 in the diagram, passenger side.

Also #6 at the side bottom should slightly over lap #7 side seal on the towards the front. Just to make sure the connection seal is good.

I have a leak on the drivers side roof. Looks like I have the updated seal. Is there some kind of roof drain in the channel?

The little channel pocket it up in the corner on the updated seal. The water drains down the little seals tube in the seal. On the convertible top seam , they all have a plastic lip on the outside where the fabric that is stitched that acts like a gutter. That's all there is for the water drainage. Looks close at your top and A pillar rubber seal.

So I have the updated seal. Are you saying there is a drainage tube in the a pillar? I think mine be clogged on the drivers side only. How should one go about clearing the tube if it's plugged up somehow?

Yes, its in the newer design gasket itself, look at the little pouch and drain goes down the the gasket on the a pillar. Clean it out.

I have an R53. The little black piece above the passenger APillar literally flew off my car. And mini is wanting to charge me $80. I have a feeling the guy was looking at the wrong piece. Do any of you guys have a name or a part number.

This is for R52 Convertibles , you have an R53 Hardtop. The little black rubber piece above the A pillar is part of the long drip edge section.
