How Do I Disable the Auto Theft Alarm

Hi:

I've been a member for some months now and have learned a lot about my Mini and Mini's in general from all of you knowledgeable members. I have a 2007 Mini S Convertible with Automatic and supercharged engine (don't know if that matters or not)

About three weeks ago, I made a quick stop, got out and locked my car with the key. When I came back just a few minutes later, the horn was honking and the lights were blinking. They went off when I clicked the "unlock" button on my key fob.

I called the Mini dealership and service dept. told me it was damp wires and to open the hood and slam it shut.(???) I got home and tried it and all was well until three days ago.

Running errands, stopped at library, got out of car and locked with key remote. Lights started blinking right away but no horn.

This morning I got in the car, locked it from inside with key remote and put key in ignition. Before I got my seat belt on, the alarm went off. At work I was afraid to lock it. After work, I got in the car, closed the door, locked with 2nd key fob and put key in ignition. Before I could get my seat belt on, the alarm went off.

So, It's not the key (it happened with both keys) and has nothing to do with anything wet (was dry the first two times the alarm went off).

Don't really want to go to dealer and have them charge me $165 to hook up the computer.

Is there anyone who can guide me step-by-step on how to disable the theft alarm? Where I park, theft is not a concern.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Motoringfile.com has the pdf installs for just about every mini branded add on...
Might be worth a few minutes to find the info about how it is installed....might be able tofigure out how to do a partial uninstall/disable from the install info....

Here is the alarm retrofit install instructions for the R52 MINI Convertibles.

I believe they are talking about the hood sensor that is o the drive side passenger side hood latch that might not being showing the hood is shut possibly ? Or its triggering and popping up?

Check the little switch under the hood by the passenger side lock. I bet it is triggering the hood problem with the alarm.

Does you hood shut properly. Sometimes the latch cables stick and don't release then when you close your hood, the hood semi closes and pops back up. I had that happens and new cables were in order also?

The system reads if a door , hood, or trunk opens.

There is a tilt sensor and the interior sensors also.

This is the alarm kit:

Thanks and hope that helps.

If you use the FOB to lock the car it activates the alarm. You don't want the alarm active when you get in the car. There is an ultra-sonic sensor inside that detects motion, and will go off if you are in the car when you activate the alarm. You said you used the key to lock the door after you got in? I think the easy solution is to just use the lock switch inside the car to lock the door once you're inside. Also, you can program the car to auto-lock the doors when you start moving.

Thanks

First of all, a big "THANK YOU" for the recommendations and advice.

After a few weeks of not locking my car, I made an appointment with my Mini dealer to have the alarm disabled (I am not a do-it-yourselfer." After two hours, the SA came out to tell me they couldn't disable the factory alarm system without messing up a dozen or so other computer-related things. They ran the diagnostics and determined my right rear trunk (sorry, "boot") sensor was bad. They ordered the part.

Got a call that my part was in. Made an appointment and arrived for the fix. Fifteen minutes later, my SA advised me they had received the wrong part ... and would reorder and now knew what the part looked like. (At least I got a free wash and vacuum.)

Call from Mini. Part is in. Appointment arrives and after an hour, the SA comes out to tell me the sensor is installed and everything looks good. Since they had to hook the computer up to reset the alarm system, they very kindly activated my daytime running lights.

If anyone is wondering why it took so long, it's because I spent a few weeks (seriously) contemplating leaving my car unlocked with key in the ignition ... hoping someone would steal it and my wife would then consent to letting me get a JCW GP (dealership sold the first one they got, but are getting one or two more of the 500 allocated to the U.S.)

So, no limited edition JCW GP for me. But MY TOP goes down!

Thanks again!

Yes. You are welcome and glad I could help.

Does it look like this for the trunk? I was going to second guess this switch also.

It goes in the bottom left hand corner of the rear trim part in this picture. When installed it points out and faces the trunk lid on the R52 Convertibles. Its the little rectangular cutout on the trim ( which also houses the convertible top rear parcel shelf detection sensor ).

Thanks and glad you got things worked out.

Also the GP 2 does look very nice and seeing it in a showroom does make you want another one.
But the convertible can be fun with the top down.

Sorry, I just found you question, worrisome as I check the site every day, and would have suggested the boot switch straight away and saved you some running around. Mine started throwing a light warning. I looked up the necessary fix, said to heckwith all that and stuck a stick-on funiture leg glide button thingie on the inside of the boot lid opposite the switch which pushes the switch in far enough to correct the problem. Cost was a penny or three.

OOPS, forgot, summer heat softened the sticky stuff and it fell off one day I was detailing so I had to get another. Now I carry an extra in the glove box so it's up to three pennys or nine.
