I feel your frustration, and am glad I stumbled upon this thread. My issues started a few days ago when I could not open my tailgate. It seems that the power latch won't release, and there isn't a manual release handle under the seat as the manual would suggest. So, how do I manually release the tailgate if I can't fold the seats down?

With the top down and the latch dead, would have to have a long metal hook to grab the green handle on the trunk/gate.

I am going to fab a hook up tomorrow and have it in the tray of the door. This is one crazy design issue, never would have thought about the matter without this recent thread.

But, I can't see the green grab handle without the seats folded down.

Why can't you fold the seats down?

You should find a hook (not a manual release — only in the hardtop) under the rear seat. This hook is to help you pull the handle in back of the rear seat, so you can fold it down.

You mean the hook? It should be quite obvious, and it must be missing if you don't see it. It is a metal rod shaped with a hook at one end. There are a couple of tabs holding the rod that it snaps onto. If the rod is missing you should still see the tabs there.

It's probably missing. But I will take another look when the weather cools down.

Just looked at the manual. My memory was incorrect. The hook/rod is actually attached to the underside of the seat bottom.

I read the manual last night, from cover to cover.
I'm seeing my mechanic tomorrow and will ask him to take a look.
He's got better dexterity than I do.

Update - found the tool under the seat and was able to get the seats down and pull the manual release!
Now to figure out it it's the wires that need attention, or the switch that needs replacing.

Good news, if its the switch its easy with the trunk lid grip, if its the wires, you will need to fix and soldier them, then seal them up.

Hi,
I always carry one of these when I am out and about:
This is one of many
Amazon Amazon

It is a small battery jump starter that you can hook up under the hood. There is a Plus side terminal under the hood and ground to the engine. start the car, put the top up and fix the battery cable in the back!

This little jump starter has saved my butt many times. I look at is as an essential tool!
