Top Wouldn't Go Down -- not parcel shelf
 

I've been lurking here for about a year and last week I had a problem with my top (2005 MCC) so I thought I'd post here so other people would know about it.

Top wouldn't retract past the sunroof phase. The latches would start to open and the motor would make sort of a switching sound and then nothing. I was pretty worried it might be something real expensive. My wife was furious because she didn't want me to buy the car last April. (Tough luck for her because I freakin' LOVE my Mini.)

Took it over to Swift Automotive (Mini and Smart Car specialist here in Boise, Idaho). Jeff found a sticking microswitch, which he readjusted, and lubed the front latch. $150 and my wife I are happy.

Thought someone might need this in the "body of knowledge".

Thanks for posting. Can you tell us which microswitch it was, or where it's located?

Don't know the answer but I can call the technician. It'll be a few weeks though because he just left for the Philippines for two weeks.
