Can't get my "boot open" light to go out

This weekend, I installed the Mini-Do-More trailer hitch on my cabrio. To make removing the bumper cover a little easier, I removed the rear hatch first. Everything went back together fine, but now, the hatch doesn't quite depress the pin switch enough to reliably turn off the "boot open" light.

I've played around with the adjustable latch, but I can't quite get it. It appears that both the hatch and the latch have to be in just the perfect position for the light to go out - there's very little tolerance for misalignment. Right now, the hatch closes fine, the panels appear flush and the panel gaps are even, but the light won't stay out. I'll think I have it fixed, but then when I close the driver's door, the slight pressurization in the cabin is enough for the light to pop back on again.

A long time ago, I thought I remembered reading something here about an owner that had a slightly longer pin switch installed by the dealer to fix a similar problem, but I can't find anything about it now - does this sound familiar to anyone?

Yes, I think there is actually a TSB for this issue and the fix is a switch with longer pin.

Ask the dealer, I just had a new longer button switch installed. I had used a flat washer attached with duct tape for the time between services to depress the button enough.

We are having the same problem on our 06 MCC - will be taking to the dealer to fix it.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to play with it a bit longer before I give in and order a new switch, but I'm glad to hear the option's there. I feel that since everything worked fine for three years until I messed with it, I should be able to get it adjusted back the way it was before.

The light's off for now anyway - I put a piece of duct tape on the inner boot panel where it hits the pin switch, and that's enough to close the gap.

It happens to me when I press the button for the boot on the key and don't open it.
All it takes for me is pressing it again and opening and closing and the light goes out.

Mine was doing that at first, then stopped, then it started again. I got the dealer-installed longer button eventually, after months of using an adhesive-backed furniture glide.

You shouldn't have to buy the switch since there is a TSB on this issue. It's been a while, but I have seen the TSB and had the switch replaced by the dealer. Even if you're out o warranty, it doesn't hurt to ask.

And I thought I was just crazy. The light on mine comes on when I make turns, especially right hand turns. I only had the car a couple days before I had the MINI Do More so I wasn't sure if it was related to that or not.

I've just taped a small round washer with black electric tape to the boot door. Fixed the issue and can't be noticed unless you know where to look :)

I've noticed mine is more sensitive than the boot on my MCS was. I can shut the boot but the light stays off until I get out and really sorta slam it shut - I mean, I have to close it hard.
