Roof/window opening sequence

Can someone save my sanity..... Here's the sequence my 1 month old 08 convertible goes through when lowering the roof via the button (not key)

1. Sunroof opens. (1st press)

2nd press:
2. Front windows lower 3"
3. Rear windows lower completely.
4. Roof folds back.

So at this stage I'm left with my front windows down 3"...they don't fully retract....but neither are they up!

5. Rear & front windows raise.

Now I'm CONVINCED that the fronts used to lower 100% with the roof lowering button. The manual seems to support me. However my ever so helpful dealer insist that this is "normal", that you need to use the window buttons to seperately lower the fronts.

Am I mad or is my dealer full of BS?

That's how mine works, '05. Also, in order for one touch down to work I have to do the passenger first, then driver. Other way around driver's side does not respond.

I usually hit the one-touch down windows button first -- makes it faster to lower the top when I then get to the traffic light with the windows already down.

Here's the sequence my 1 month old 08 convertible goes through when lowering the roof via the button (not key)
But with key, everything comes down. . . . go figure.

I realize that -- but why did the designers feel that we would want the windows down as well when we use comfort opening but the windows up when we use the button?

Yes, that would work great if my dealer would turn on that feature, but I'm having a fight with them because they are telling me this feature was discontinued after 05 convertibles!!

Thanks for all the responses telling me I imagined this...........and that my dealer is full of it for telling me the comfort feature is no longer an option.

My 07 Cooper is going in for the first service and I asked the SA (service advisor) if this feature, top down, windows down could be turned on and I was told yes, also wanted the day time running lights turned on, will let you know when I get the car serviced if this happened.

When I get home I will hook my laptop up to my '05 and see what the options for coding convenience opening are. I am also going to code for DRL's. Hopefully the aftermarket radio the PO installed with not interfer with the coding (DIS might poll H/K amp for response and when it does not get a response will not let me go further).

+1. It saves a few seconds, and you end up with all the windows down. Unless it's cold out, then I just press the top down button, and hold it down the second time so the windows go back up without touching the window buttons.

Ok, I hooked up my computer to my car last night and there is not an option (that I could find or translate from German) that allowed the windows to go all the way down with the top. I was able to turn on DRL's and unlock the doors upon ignition off.

Here are the coding choices within NCS Expert (BMW coding tool). I do not understand the meaning of several of them. Translation is not perfect:

Akustik Tank reserve = Acoustic Tank Reserve (audible low fuel warning)
Aussentemp Warn Akustik = Warn outside temperature (freezing)
Einschaltmeldung Immer = Power-up message always (?)
Entriegeln b motor stop = Unlock doors at engine stop
Fernbedienung = Remote Maintenance (?)
Ged Fl Als DRL = Daytime Running Lights
Halten Fb oeffnen Taste = Open key for stops [fb] (?)
Heimleuchten = Home Lights
Lautstaerke Hinten = Volume in the back (PDC volume ?)
Man Wischen im Waschpro = One wiping in wash pro (?)
Standrueckschaltung = Condition resetting (?)
Temperatur einheit = Temperature unit
Verbrauch = Consumption
Verriegeln au tab x km/h = Lock outer tab... (?)
Verriegelungsschwelle = Bolting device threshold (?)
Weg einheit = Away unit (?)
Wischer vollend klr aus =Wipers full end KLR out (?)
Zeit einheit = Time Unit
Zv selektiv = ZV selectively (?)

BTW: I was having trouble with GT1/DIS communicating with the car so I had to use NCS Expert. NCS might not list all the coding options as it may be a version compatible with early MINI's only. If anyone in Austin would like their MINI coded, give me a shout. I will do it for a nominal fee...6 pack!?!?!?!?!

(changes volume of the PDC warning tone)

Verriegeln au tab x km/h = Lock outer tab... (?)
(locks doors at a certain speed . . . I don't know why 13km/h rings a bell)

I figured the PDC volume one. You are right on the lock doors at speed x (there are several choices one lay down in the menu). Any clue on the others with ? marks? For instance which one do you think turns on speed sensitive wipers?

I think it curious that you can change the time unit (12h vs 24h) via coding when you can do it from the "set clock" function directly.

What the heck is Bolting device threshold????

I've been told the same thing by my dealer It use to work but when they replaced the body control module & had to reprogram everything, they would not (could not?) do it any longer

OK, this is a very interesting post, has me going.

Are you saying that I can get a program from somewhere, install it my notebook, then connect it to my MINI and do my own programming of the options, etc.?

I would really like that, I just figured that kind of stuff was not available.

Is it? If so, where can I get it?

A month ago I even went on eBay to see if anyone had such a program, but no one had it.

Yep, you can. Visit www.bmwecu.org, visit the forums and read all about it. All the software can be downloaded for free. You will need to assemble an interface, but a fine chap by the name of Fister has an acceptional kit available. The interface (with all options will run you about $160, including cable for both old style round bmw connector and OBDII, which our MINI's use). It is not the easiest thing in the world to figure out, but if you read a lot of the post on the forum, you can figure it out.

Wow, thanks for the tips. A new project.

Hell, way back I bought a Peake Research thingy to turn off the service lights on my BMWs, about $80 at the time. I still have that thing somewhere. Was funny how it worked, press a switch so many times, etc.

I thought that was super cool, so hooking up the MINI to my notebook, I'm in.

I have pretty good computer skills, so hope it does not take me a month to learn it all.

Of course, I'll have to PM you for help.

Update: Just joined ecubb. No time to talk, lots of reading to do. I am gonna play doctor, aka MINI brain surgery. Gosh, can I fry my MINI's brain to where it won't run? No worry, gotta pay to play.

Of course you can screw things up if you really try hard enough. Basic tip is to recode all the original code numbers. That way if you get it really screwed up, you just restore the original values and you are back in business. Really no chance of frying a module.

I should be clear that the software is not available from ecubb for download, but can be found elsewhere. I cannot stress enough that you purchase Fister's inteface. You get more than just hardware....
