Meet Dougal - (Jerseygirl and IanF's new MINI)

On 5/21 we picked up a new addition to our automotive family, after waiting a little over 5 weeks for his arrival. I'd like everyone to meet Dougal (pronounced "Doogle"). He's a 2007 PW/Blue MCC Sidewalk. He's late getting introduced because once we got him home, and with just 89 miles on the odometer, we proceeded to rip his interior apart to make him our own.

For those who've been around since the earlier days of NAM/MCO, you probably remember my little Nittany. You just might see a little bit of a family resemblance to her in Dougal. And don't worry. Nittany isn't going anywhere. She's just a big sister now. :)

His freshly painted PW dash and downtubes, and blue speedo, tach, and trim rings:

More freshly painted blue bits and custom shift and e-brake boots:

I had purchased spares of all the dash pieces, trims rings, etc. and had most of them painted before he arrived. We also had an Ian Cull auto-up window circuit ready and waiting for when he arrived.

Go ahead and say it... We're INSANE! It's OK, really. We've been saying it to ourselves since we put the deposit down back in April!

Dougal will be joining Nittany for The GREAT Ice Cream Run from Day 5 right through MOT. We hope you'll all make him feel welcome. He's still a little shy. :)

Wow Robyn - that looks fabulous :)
The painted interior really works nicely - you can't get Pepper White body colored dash from the factory then?

I really look forward to meeting Dougal ... you should rename Nittany to be Brian now ;)

The more I see the sidewalk interior, the more tempting it becomes ...

Thanks Ian! You CAN get a PW dash from the factory, but NOT in the Sidewalk. All Sidewalks come with a "special" interior trim that is kind of like anthracite, but not exactly.

Is Dougal's interior blue trim IB? like the big sis? 'Cause that's pretty cool.

Jerseygirl Jun 3, 2007 01:38 PM

Nope. Not IB. It's a bit darker since we were trying to get closer to the color of his blue top.

Very, very nice.

CR&PW&JB Jun 4, 2007 04:18 AM

Gorgeous !! And those two MINIs compliment each other nearly perfectly !!

The reason I say "nearly" is because Dougle could use a pair of blue mirror caps to match his stripes. I think that would look awesome, especially since Nittany has mirror caps that match her stripes.

Again, gorgeous MINI and no, you're not a bit insane. You only live once... have fun and enjoy the ride !

Side note: Next Mod: Having my oval door inserts and dash painted Chili Red. Gotta do it.

Congrats Robyn and Ian!

We've debated painting the mirror caps as well. And the plans are already to paint the door pulls. Just couldn't get them done in time for the big "unveiling" at one of our local get-togethers last week.

Congrats, beautiful new Sidewalk and the dash looks smashing!

...just in time for a road trip, no ice cream on the seats!

Congrats Robyn and Ian!

Thduke is a little jealous :thumbsup::thumbsup: that Nittany got a little brother, but not to worry THDUKE body guard will arrive on 7/27 :nod::nod::nod::nod::nod:

IanF Jun 4, 2007 07:04 AM

Thanks to all! I'm so happy to finally have a MINI of my own to drive!

I agree about the mirror caps... I think they would look good in blue, although we may wait until we have a spare set to paint in case we don't like it.

And THDUKE's old JCW exhaust has been cleaned up a bit and will hopefully go on Nittany this week.

minimk3 Jun 4, 2007 03:59 PM

Very nice! hope to catch Dougal and Nittany motoring in West Windsor.

Jerseygirl Jun 4, 2007 05:52 PM

I'll keep my eyes out for you. Would be nice to see a friendly face. I've found that pretty much nobody in the Princeton area waves.

minimk3 Jun 4, 2007 06:53 PM

I always wave when I see a fellow MINIAC. You are right about some folks in Princeton....they just ignore me.

I've gotten used to it but it was very disheartening when I first bought Nittany back in '03 and nobody was waving.

Annewithane Jun 5, 2007 09:24 AM

Very creative color combo. Dougal is certain to be one-of-a-kind!

franinpa Jun 6, 2007 05:24 PM

I dig the convertible, but those blue rings around the speedo, gearshift, etc don't match the interior. I'd go with a glossy black or a cream color to match the dash.

eager2own Jun 6, 2007 05:46 PM

I think the blue trim works well with the blue top -- I wouldn't change it.

That was our thinking too. :)
