While cleaning out the passenger footwell after the famous Tail of the Dragon weekend, I found this 6 inch long tube laying on the floor. I did not put it in my MINI and have never seen it before, and so am suspicious that it is something that has fallen off/out???

Maybe the tube that goes to the glove box AC vent?

I'm gonna go look under there and see what I can figure out. . . . .

maybe something from the seat? Go thru and make sure everything in the car works correctly!

Well, the funny thing is that I think that this piece falling off has resulted in a noticeable performance increase.

I'm gonna have to get it on the dyno and confirm, but by butt-dyno says about 5-10 hp gained!

Jeez, so I see I am not the only one who had that little tube disconnected.

I discovered mine hanging in midair under the dash when I gave the car a once-over.

I think most MINIs are made on Mondays or Fridays.

I just think a lot of those brits at the plant come in hammered or hung over.

But it will be good to remember that it is there if my slurpee is ever too thick and I need a really big straw to gulp it down!

OMG! This very same thing has happened to me! I tried to see where it came from and could not figure out where or what it was. That part has been sitting in my glove box for months now!

While we're on the subject, will you guys settle something for me?

I've read 2 conflicting things about the A/C glove compartment. One said it was either cold or hot depending on what you had the climate control set to produce. The other said the glove compartment was always kept cold no matter what the climate control was set to do.

Which is it?

It's my belief which also seemed to be confirmed with a quick test (soon after I fixed the half-connected hose!) that it will be kept cold regardless of the temp setting AS LONG as the a/c compressor is functioning. This would include defrost mode in cold weather. Green light on snowflake button = chilly glove box. Unless you shut off the airflow with the litte **** inside the box.

Hmm. Two things: If several people have had this hose pop off, it's most likely a design issue and not a matter of workers being "hammered and hungover".

And: Look inside the glovebox -- you should see that the A/C outlet has a valve on it that has to be operated manually to open it to the glovebox (at least it's that way on mine). I'd think that you'd want to keep it closed unless there's something inside that needs to be kept cold. (Personally, I can't see ever using the thing but it's something to tell people about when showing off the car )

It's been a while since this thread has been active. I found this tube lying in my floorwell, and I actually threw it away, thinking it came from some other junk that was in my floorwell

Anyway, does anyone know how I can get a replacement and chill my glovebox out?
