Same case happened to me. My OEM antenna base broke when I took the car to a car wash. I am thinking of replacing the OEM base with the Shark fin cover offered from Mossmini since it is cheaper than a new OEM base. Have anyone use it before? How does it looks?

Snapped Antenna Mast

Before I purchased my MCS, the antenna was snapped off of the base. I obviously didn't realize this at the time or I would have dealt with it then and there. The threaded section of the old antenna is still in the base. Before my warranty ran out, I watched the staff of Mini of St. Louis spend a good hour trying to get the original threaded component out of the base to no avail. They told me that its a crap shoot. Sometimes they come out, and sometimes they don't. What I do know however, is that they did put a concerted effort into it, and that the next logical step would be to replace the unit for, what i believed was quoted to be, $435.00. Originally I was going to get XM or Sirius and wrote it all off. Now though, I've reconsidered satellite radio, and I really just want the antenna to be functional if for no other reason than to get a custom antenna for it. Do I have options? is there something out there I might have missed? The Shark Fin through Moss is just a cover right? And $435 included labor but that wouldn't take more than an hour so even at $110/hour shop fees it's still like $325. Let me know if you all have any thoughts. Thanks.

$435 to fix the antenna thats way to much. The OEM antenna can be replaced, it is bolted to the roof I believe. You have to remove it from the inside.
I have rechecked with the Moss Mini and turns out the shark fin cover is for 02-04 mini which has smaller antenna base than 05-06. So the only option I have is OEM Mini Base in which I am still waiting for a quote from my local mini dealer.

I have several of the 02-04 antenna bases in stock for $38 each if anyone needs one. I've seen this alot from people going through car washes.

Actually how I do it is I pop the headliner down at the back of the car. The cover on the roof actually popes off and you use a 19mm wrench to take the nut off. Then the whole antenna base will come loose and you can disconnect the wires and pull it out. Then reverse for install. Sometimes you have to reglue the clips to the headliner, but no big thing. So all you'll really need is the base and a new antenna.

I'll check and see if I have any 05-06 bases, if not I'll get you a price on a new one.

The snow was 2 feet deep on top of the MINI and I was pushing it off with the new Sno Brum http://www.amazon.com/Sno-Brum-Origi.../dp/B0007LDXLA and I forgot the stubby antenna was there and SNAP .... it broke the oval housing right below the antenna. I managed to tape it up until today so no water got in....but the antenna was always a little cocked to one side!!

Part# 65206985714 for $66.04 + tax from the dealer (Otto's MINI .... who are always a little high on cost .... but they had it in stock) is what I needed (R50 - 2005 with no Nav).

One plastic clip at the middle rear of the headliner and a little tugging around the corner vertical trims and I had access. The two plugs are in a plastic wire loom held in with plastic spring clips. They smallest wire unplugged easily. The bigger wire had a tab and springy clip to disconnect. I used a 7/8ths deep 6 sided socket to get the single nut off.

Some Zaino was applied to the virgin roof under the assembly .... and the new one went in very easily in reverse order.

R & R was pretty easy overall.

I hope I do not have to pay the $70 STUPID TAX again!

Bob
