I'm not so sure about the change I just made to my MINI

I wanted to make a small change, something to make the car more "unique". I have an Indi Blue MCS with a white roof, white wheels, white bonnet stripes and formerly white mirror caps. I bought Union Jack mirror covers, thought it would be a fun, small change. Well it completely changed the look of the car. At first I liked the difference. Now I am not sure I like the change. Maybe I just need time to get used to the look?

white bonnet scoop thats what im doing and white cowl covers

Sounds like we have very similar cars. I bought my car in October from a British gal. She installed the Union Jack mirror caps on the car as her first mod. I had reservations about the mirror caps, but fortunately she included the original white ones too.

Once I got the car up to Alaska, all cleaned and polished up - I decided to keep the union jack mirror caps on the car. There's only 6 Minis in my town, and the mirror caps definitely make the car stand out from the other 5 cars. I think they go really well with Indi Blue too.

Might just take you a while to get used to the new mirror caps. Whenever I see one of the other Minis here, they look like something is 'missing' with their plain white (or black) mirror caps...

Hope this helps!

I'd say it looks.......it looks...... uh, I don't know how it looks because there are no pics.:sly:

It may take a bit of time to get used to them. If you don't like them after a while it's very easy to undo the change. Some other mods are.... well rather harder to undo.

cycleguru Dec 16, 2006 04:41 AM

I have an IB/w also. I'm curious. Pics Please.

Any change, even the real small ones sometimes take some getting used to. Leave them on for awhile and see if you get to appreciate them more than you do now.

kenchan Dec 16, 2006 06:02 AM

after a while stock look becomes boring to some people..so it's good
to have dressup goodies like that and be able to switch back and
forth at will. :)

the fastest way to make your car unique is not decals, but getting
wheels... (and i just opened a can of worms for ya. )

ProfessorDave Dec 16, 2006 06:25 AM

It makes yours unique! Keep them for awhile.

resmini Dec 16, 2006 06:38 AM

I replaced the white mirror caps with chrome ones. I liked them at first but have been considering going back to the white ones. Part of the problem is they are the stick-on caps and if you look close you can tell they are covering the original white caps.

Hope I can get them off without messing up the white ones.

I like the union jack mirror caps as long as there are no other union jacks on the car. It's possible to have too much of a good thing.

rhawth99 Dec 16, 2006 09:09 AM

I have an HB MCS with silver mirrors and roof - I've been debating on the Union Jack mirror covers. I'm just not sure how the Union Jack blue will look against the HB.

Blue Cooper Dec 16, 2006 10:00 AM

Personally i think the Jack mirror caps look tacky...but thats just me...
If you want to really dress the car up look at the sunroof decals...it's a bit like getting a tatoo, so be very decisive on what you get...I just put pin-stripe decals on my hatch flanking the mini logo and i think it looks quite cool, but the nice thing about stick-ons is that when you do change yer mind they come right off

There's a couple more in my gallery, but here's what they look like on my car.

Yes, why not try that for awhile? You can always switch back later. I agree, UJ mirror caps would change the look but it's not really that much of a stretch...I mean it's not a totally crazy mod, especially w/ IB. Give it time.

kenchan Dec 16, 2006 02:02 PM

it's begging for those nose thingies you get at www.outmotoring.com

nose badges? grill badges? in the union jack. :)

gasmini03 Dec 16, 2006 02:31 PM

To unionjack or not to unionjack

We bought our MINI with the unionjack mirror covers already on them, we weren't sure at first that we'd like them but as time goes by, we've come to like them and we get alot of compliments on them. However, they began to look lonely, so we added red, trimmed in white stripes to the bonnet and down the boot. Now, we really like them! Previous owner debadged the boot, so we had a vinyl "cooper" made to go on it. Take a look at our gallery to see more pics of our MINI. In our opinion, the unionjacks make a nice accessory, I say go for it!

Nope ... if you don't like them, get rid of them.

The mere fact your asking this in a public forum speaks volumes.

Those look great and this looks even better!

Maybe you should consider adding the UJ rear view mirror cover? I chose this because LY doesn't go with the Union Jack, but your color is perfect!

I like it!

Darren,
Our cars could be twins...almost, my wheels are different! Looking at your photo I realize it's such a small detail and it looks good because it's not "overdone". The look is definitely growing on me. It may sound crazy but while I want my Mini to look unique, I don't want to be driving a "circus" car!! But I think as long as I don't do anything else to the exterior of the car I'll be happy with the look. By the way, beautiful spot for a photo! Looks alot like my home, Colorado. How does your Mini handle those snowy Alaska roads? Thanks for sharing, I am slowly overcoming my fear of mods, I realize that with a Mini it is the norm!

Motor On Dec 16, 2006 06:13 PM

Start with the mirror caps before you know it you'll have enough parts to begin assembling a second MINI in your garage  (well that is a legit case depend upon who you talk to:sly:) Glad its growing on you, it not a circus car but yes just about everywhere you go you stand out in a bold manner, so being as visible as we are, customizing the look or preformance or handling os al just part of the fun.:)

A nidely modded MINI parked next to a stock Ferrari, the MINI will always draw the larder crowd.

Circus car :sly: :sly: you say tomato I say tomaato

To each his own but my taste leans more towards BOLD, standout Minis.
My favorite Mini is the one with the UJ paint job all over it  .
Some have more tame tastes.
If you don't like the UJ caps yank em off but I think they look great

Motor ... dude ... sorry but I don't think so, ... at least if they know what they are looking at:wink:

Especially when they pop open the engine bay and listen to a sweet V12.

Very cute Mini and maybe your age lets you get away with the loud, bold look. And I'm not planning to yank off the UJ caps, not after spending $120.00 on these little pieces of plastic, they are growing on me.
