This can't be normal...

I've owned my 03' MC (32,000 miles) for just over a month and noticed something strange. Sometimes when putting the car in reverse, a few things happen.

1) There's a bit of grinding before it engages
2) I have to let the clutch out a tad-bit before it engages
3) It simply wont go into reverse, I have to sit there and go back and forth before it finally engages - normally 3 or 4 times.

A lot of the time it's just fine... but way too often I run into these problems. Anyone with similar issues? Do you think the dealer will give me a load of crap if I take it in for warranty work since it's not something that happens EVERY time?

Unless the dealer can get it to do what you say its doing, they are going to give you back the keys and say give us a call if it happens again. They only attempt to fix problems that can be reproduced on command.

Ouch.. that's not going to work.. I only have about 6 months on my warranty and I'm about to take a 1500 mile trip. I can't afford bigger, more prevailant issues later. ;-(

My guess (as this happens at the moment on my Cherokee) is that your slave cylinder is shot, you're gonna need to replace that and all should be well.

and man oh man is it embarrising tring to reverse out of a parking space and just grinding for a second!

I agree. Sounds like the slave cylinder. The dealership should be able to fix that without much fuss.
