My MINI Cooper is at 9093 Miles and 375 to go until first service,
so I'll be at under 10,000 miles at my first service.

I have heard some people getting to 12,000 miles or more before their
first service.

I drive once-in-a-while since I work from home, so I'm coming up
on my MINI's 1-year anniversary May-1.

If you could post your current milage, service interval milage, type of
car and driving "style" I will gather the data and make it available on
a website for people.

i'm dumping my oil next week (5000+ miles) before i leave for Deals Gap (engine break in = early oil change)
and will let MINI service her at 10,000, then i should be regular (except for special circumstances)
type of driving: too fast and i'm hard on my vehicles

I'm going to change my own oil for the first time (about 2100 miles). I want to do this because I have a trip from MD to Atlanta and Orlando this weekend coming and I want the engine bathing in fresh oil for the trip. I've always been a believer in replacing the 'break in' oil after about 1500-2000 miles. True, the filter gets most of the nasties, but it wont trap the very fine stuff or any of the assembly lube or solvents.

As far as my driving style, no matter what it is, I drive it like I stole it.

I changed my oil & filter myself at ~3000 miles (switched to Amsoil). I now have just over 5100 and my service indicator says 5300 to go. If that's right it means I won't need the "dealer" service until 10,400 miles. I'll be getting it done at the dealer for the free labor and filter, but will bring my own oil. I broke my MCS in pretty easy, but other than that I drive her pretty hard, so I'm not sure why she's saying she'll go beyond 10K for the 1st service. The reason could be that I do not sit in much stop and go traffic, which is probably the hardest thing on a car.

I've got to beleive that it's the driving environment not so much the drivers style. Stop and go has to be the worst as orbhot said. I've had a few long drives, 500 miles plus, and a few more 300 mile days but the majority of my driving is work related at 100 miles a day, give or take.

I've got 15,800 currently (arrived 9/17/02) and had my "10,000" mile service pulled about 1200 miles early at 11,600. The computer wanted it completed at something like 12,850.

Now if you ask my wife ............. well that's a different story for a different thread!
