amen.... i dont think the jokes to them ever gets old..... bottom line is though.. .it is your car, ignore what the naysayers might say, they can claim this and that but in the end of the day, who's driving the fun mini and who's driving the boring jetta?

RA080624 Nov 24, 2006 11:30 AM

is it an s or a regular one

gokartride Nov 24, 2006 11:31 AM

About those people it is said, "It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubts."

davavd Nov 24, 2006 11:31 AM

Funny? :sly: One of the young guys I work with introduced me to the notion of "chick cars" and pointed them out to me. It ruined several for me - not that I was going to buy any of them, but after finding that out, I could never think about them without thinking of that. He never mentioned the MINI. I don't think he was just being nice, since he has talked about getting one himself.

Maybe it depends where you live. I would find it annoying, too. People here seem to respect them. :)

MaxN Nov 24, 2006 11:32 AM

My wife has a plate holder for her 325i that says 'No, it is not my husbands car !'

Maybe you could get something similar :)

Or just realise that the joke is on them as they get into their boring POS ?

Celtic Frost Nov 24, 2006 11:53 AM

To me, the biggest chick car is a Jetta.

People will ask if a MINI is a chick car only to try to get on your nerves. IMO, the only people who can question the "masculinity" of a car are those guys driving around muscle cars that they work on themselves, as I think they've earned the right to tease others.

Gromit801 Nov 24, 2006 11:55 AM

Only cars where we live that my wife and I agree are "chick" cars, are SUV's. That's who 80% of the drivers are.

Though, this particular car might be a chick car...

I've got two easy answers to such questions depending on the situation:

1) Yes, this is my wife's car. . . my MINI is green.
2) No, this is my car, my wife's MINI is purple.

Should I be expecting to get "moobs" soon?

eVal Nov 24, 2006 12:48 PM

Just say, its mine and i have nothing to compensate for ;)

You can't let dumb bitter insecure types get to you. Besides, in the end they always change their tune if they ever drive one

justintime Nov 24, 2006 12:49 PM

everyone always tells me the normal cooper is a girls car and the s is a guys car. no one ever accepts my challenges to an autocross though ;]

OmToast Nov 24, 2006 12:52 PM

Wow. It's almost like this topic never gets old - which is cool, because this way I get multiple opportunities to bring up the generally offensive nature of considering anything as "chick" appropriated, particularly when it's always derrogatory.

Honestly, I NEVER get sick of making this point, and I just can't wait til the next opportunity rolls around (oh please. oh please. let it be tomorrow.)...

I like "No, it's how I met her though!"

Or "No, but she could smoke your a$$ in it, I'm sure!"

Its what you want. Don't listen to ignorant people. Listen to what you want.

ParrishBlue Nov 24, 2006 02:00 PM

I used to get the "chick car" thing all the time in my Silver 2K VW Beetle.
The only comments I have gotten in my Mini have been good ones.
I have gotten alot of questions and big smiles.
My teens friends love it....they've seen the Italian Job:thumbsup:

I guess where you live is a factor. Mini's are rather rare in my neck 'o the woods.
And I agree, most SUV drivers around here are women with cell phones growing out of their ears and 1.2 microscopic children somewhere inside them.

I'd love to see the official results of that particular poll. I obviously missed it first time around.

I consider them both to be exceptional drivers cars myself......

Around here I see about 50-50 split of Coopers and Cooper S's.

I also see an approximatey 50-50 split of guys and girls driving.

Add to that I see Mini drivers ranging from teenage to 'old age'. Again a fairly even split.

Plus there is a decent split between black/white/asian/whatever :) I would say that 'white guys' are possibly the majority here, but its tough to say :)

Seems to me that there is no one demographic that either model appeal to.

BE4TNUT Nov 24, 2006 04:02 PM

Haha, just be like, "No its mine" and if they have any sort of flashy, expensive, or large car just throw in "Nice car you have there though, what are you compensating for?" and point to their car lol.

BEATNUT

Motor On Nov 24, 2006 04:19 PM

Ok this whole compensating thing is getting old, what size car you drive has nothing to do with the size of anything else.

Chows its not CUTE or even cute, its bad---.

Next time fire up your engine and don't waste oyur time with those who want to ridicule your car choice life is too short, fire up the engine chirp the tires and eb done with them.

Search is your friend:nod:

Jtrem Nov 24, 2006 04:24 PM
