R50/53 Sunroof - manual retraction
Sunroof - manual retraction
Okay- I got blasted here for asking how to set the clock, even though I cannot find those instructions in the manual. This time I have the instructions, but they don't seem to reflect the reality of the car. I know there is an allen wrench in the secondary toolkit for cranking the sunroof shut, but on my 2006 MINI S, there is no place to use it. I looked. All I have is what had been referred to here as the "sad clown face" No little hatch to slide back or hinge down. Now so far this hasn't been an issue, but since I do use the roof a lot, I would like to be able to retract it if I do have a power problem. Anyone?

In the event of an electrical malfunction
you can open and close the glass sunroof
manually
1. Slide the cover panel towards the interior
remove it
2. Use an Allen key to turn the glass sunroof
the direction required.1. Slide the cover panel towards the interior
remove it

CTDAVID,
It is not simply a little door or hatch. You have to remove an entire little console that has switches in it. Because of this, it isn't something you'll do often. The console is located between the mirror stalk and the (larger)console that houses switches for the sun roof.

PS: I was able to set my clock tonight thanks to your other thread about "how to." Thanks.

You pull out the piece that has the airbag light on it. I think the reading lamps are on it too. You'll feel like you're hurting your car when it pulls out.

You have to remove the front reading lamp assembly before you can use the tool to manually close the roof.
Sorry about the treatment you got in the earlier thread. Some people get a big jolly from slamming on a newbie.

PS I wouldn't make a habit of working the roof manually. That panel with the reading lights isn't designed to be removed and replaced on a regular basis. It'll break sooner rather than later.

I love the sunroof, use it most every day. I'm also spritely driving through my warrantee, just wondering how many people have had problems with the sunroof- and what it costs to have repaired. Guess I could run a search, thought I'd just raise my hand.
