Went on a MINI run today with MINI OWNERS CLUB of Los Angeles

The day starts out at 730 AM. I go to pick up my passenger and another buddy with his '78 and we cruise west on the 10 Fwy to Santa Monica Holiday Inn off Sunset. After we all meet up and sign the liability release we take off west on Sunset west towards the beach. We meet up at PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) get gas and pose for a group pic at Gladstone's Restaurant. There were about 15 of each old and new. After that we head north into the Santa Monica Mountains. We end up going through a residential mountain section with some very tight turns-up and down again an meet up again on PCH. We all line up taking up the sides of the road up a about 1/8 of a mile both sides of the street. Anybody who wanted to went up/down again while the rest waited below. After we all talk for awhile some people split off and the other go up to the Rock Store for something to eat. The RC is a big moto hang out with mostly cycles there. Jay Leno is usually up there with something exotic that he owns but not today. All in all a very fun and enjoyable day.

Some of the canyon turns were so tight that if you were on the line and a bicycle was next to you, it would not have enough shoulder to be there at the same time. This road was perfect suited for both old and new MINIs. In retrospect I don’t think I would have been able squeeze my M3 though some of the openings with the same confidence I had with the MCs today. For some reason this was the first event I have done with my MINI and I was impressed with the comradeship of the other owner's. All kinds of people: male, female, young, old fast driver and slow. All the BMW events I go to are usually younger guys who like to pose and try to make you think they are rich-kind of boring and never this many on a drive. The exception is Bimmer Fest but it is not really a drive. If you have never seen 30 MINIs on the road at once buzzing around it is quite a sight.

I was there in my all black (Jet Black) MCS with the VacuCam Pro TH system. I shot about 24 minutes of video. I'll be putting portions of it up on Google Video. But since my own Malibu Canyon DVD was banned off NAM, it won't be posted here, since this run took place on the exact same roads. Check out the MOALA chat forum for links.

I'm glad you had a good time and hope to see you at more MOALA events! This has been a favorite annual MOALA run for decades.
