I'm so insulted!!!

I just received a letter in the mail, the envelope of which held the following message: Important information about your vehicle enclosed.

Confused, I opened it. This is what I found:

Dear Vehicle Owner,

PLEASE REVIEW THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION CAREFULLY:

Koeppel Hyundai Mitsubishi in Long Island City, New York has been slected as a site to conduct a special market test pricing and financing event. Your current vehicle qualifies you for this sale.

Koeppel Hyundai Mitsubishi is in great need to acquire 100 pre-owned vehicles to fulfill special used vehicle requests. Our records indicate that you may own one of these vehicles and our sales managers have been authorized to buy back your current vehicle.

We would like you to exchange your current vehicle for a new 2006 or new 2007 Hyundai or Mitsubishi car or sport utility vehicle. With current model-year end factory incentives on remaining 2006 models and generous trade-in values, we feel confident that you can make this exchange with little or no money down and a monthly payment to fit your budget.

In other words, they think I'd want to trade in my brand-new, 2-month old, can't-stop-smiling-'cause-I-have-it MINI for a Hyundai?!? I mean, I can't blame them for trying, but it's okay to be insulted, right?

I doubt they even know what kind of car you have. I've received those before even when I have owned an old POS. It's probably just a direct mailing advertisement that was sent to a list of random addresses they purchased. It's just a way to get people into their dealership to trade in their new car, don't take it personal:thumbsup:

   I think your outrage is justified, but it's much more fun to just laugh at their ignorance.

Hmmm - a MINI for a Hyundai or Mitsubishi. Tough decision - you may want to give that some careful consideration

Gotta love direct mail marketing!

mini_dreams Nov 15, 2006 02:04 PM

what's scary about these kinds of direct mail pieces (or most IMHO) is that someone must be responding to these types of things because it's such a huge industry.

i would keep the smile-inducing MINI!

MotorMouth Nov 15, 2006 03:16 PM

It's like spam, but at least they have to pay for postage.

ZAMIRZ Nov 15, 2006 03:21 PM

Tell them you're up for a straight-across trade MINI for Evo IX, otherwise they can shove it.

To bad most of these type of ads don't have return addresses. If it did. I would write "You serious? I own a MINI." and return it to them.

I read, once, about a guy who heated his house with junk mail - all his burnable fuel was delivered! Then the post office got tired of delivering it to him, so he set up multiple PO boxes, got his name on more than a few mailing lists, and off he went. Wonder what happened to that guy?

I used to write this kind of crap to pay the bills back in college. Ignore it. The companies who hire these DM places rarely look at the finished product.

I say you send in a reply with an enclosed picture of your MINI and write on the side, "TRADE THIS FOR THAT?!"

ProfessorDave Nov 16, 2006 04:02 PM

WOW! Do it! Come on, how could you resist?! You could get one of those awesome Elantras! They are soooo unique! Make sure you get it in silver...I never see any of those on the road!
