Cruising RPM's & MPG
 

Just curious... what RPM's (and speed) do you folks cruise the freeway's at and what kind of gas mileage are you getting for mostly highway.

I cruise between 3800 - 4200RPM's approx. 80MPH+ and am getting about 27MPG.

I'm assuming if I drove at about 3000RPM's my mileage would better... any thoughts?

'03 MC - 29,000miles

On my MCS, I usually get 33-34 mpg (OBC) on a mostly highway cruise at 3k rpm. My best all-highway cruise was 37 mpg (OBC) in the 3k-3400 rpm range.

MC cruising at 3100 rpm = 35.4 mpg.

3000 to 3100 usually 30 to 33 mpg

That's what I get on the longer hauls, locally (where the lmits are lower) I can easily reach 33-35 range (pure estimate based on fuel guage and trip milage compared to known values from city driving) keeping it closer to 2,500 but then I tend to blow that good gas milage once I hit the street level with lots of red lights. I did pull in a tank where I had a cumulative average of 35.5; however that was up, down and adround mountains on country back roads so m RPMs where all over the place.:grin:

At that speed....3K RPM's in 6th..I always use cruise...I get
435/tank approx. 40 to 43 MPG..!!!

Wow... it would seem I need to slow it down a bit to take advantage of this great gas mileage you all are getting! My best yet is 29.4 and that was nearly ALL highway but cruising at 3800-4200RPM's.

For all of you driving MCS's, how fast would you say you're going if you are @ 3K RPM's (in sixth of course)? I beleive it's around 65-70ish in my MC.. maybe someone else can clarify that... I'm still a brand new owner (one week ;-)
