What's wrong with people these days?
No respect I tell you. I was outside and noticed a smudge on the hood of my wifes car. Upon closer inspection it was apparent someone sat something on her hood. My guess is a box of some sort they couldn't hold while opening their door at the local shopping plaza. Instead of lifting it, it seems they just slide it off her car as the scratches continued in a uniform pattern to the fender.
It's nothing that can't be worked out with a little elbow action and good cleaning product. It's just the fact of the matter that people these days do not have respect for another persons property. At first I was a little upset and wished bad things to happen to the person. Then I figured it wasn't worth it as I care enough for my stuff that I know how to get their ignorance off my wifes hood. We need a law where if someone is caught not respecting others property. They need to stand on the side of a busy intersection with a sign saying "I'm a disrespectful idiot". |
What gets me about people like you mentioned is that if they caught you doing the same thing to their car, they would probably have gone off the deep end. But since they are messing with your property, they would say you are over-reacting.

I always park far from people when I go to stores etc. Recently I have people pull right next to me, so I can't even get in my door. There was not a car near me for fifty feet or more. people are just "A HOLES". I park away from people because I do care about my property, and I try to avoid simple accidents in parking lots. I guess people think that your not entitled to take pride in your property.

My friends and I stopped for an ice cream cone at Mcdonalds on the PCH after doing a little canyon run in our 330's. My girlfriends husband was left outside to do dog duty and to watch the cars. My girlfriend and I walk out of McDonalds to see a group of men by our cars. Unsavory group at that. This guy was leaning on my rear quarter panel. My girlfriends husband didn't see them because his back was to the cars and he was distracting our dogs. I was sooo angry!  I grabbed my dogs leash, walked over to my car and said to the man "do you mind getting off my car?" The man moved. Afterwards, in my mind I thought these guys are goina kick my butt. You know what? I didn't care because it was my frickin brand new car. People are inconsiderate and they don't care if you are around or not!

I once came out of class to find a small group of college athletes hanging out beside my car trying to impress some girls. One of them was leaning against my car. As I approached, I heard him talking about how fast he drove in my car.
I pressed the key button to open the windows and sunroof remotely and this loser about jumped out of his skin with surprise. I just laughed, got into my car, and left satisfied that his friends were laughing their heads off at what an idiot he looked like in front of the girls he was trying to impress. I am all for public humiliation as a punishment. I don't think that anything is more effective at stopping people from being inconsiderate schmucks. |
Nothing to do with cars but a people rant none-the-less. I work at a speciality grocery store. A dad has his two young kids at the checkout. One is on his shoulders the other climbing on the side of the cart, what happens next, you guessed it, the cart tips over onto the kid, scraping her up a bit. So what does this F'ing F-stick want to do, file an accident report, trying to put the blame on the store and it's cart rather then his parenting skills, or lack their of. We BS'd around long enough that he got tired of waiting and just left.

I am all for public humiliation as a punishment. I don't think that anything is more effective at stopping people from being inconsiderate schmucks. As for the original post this is why I park far away from other cars and peple as much as possible, its the same attidue as drivers who must bump into the cars around them when paralell parking or the person who orders food at a resturant while yapping on their cell phone. Too many people just don't care these days, they just want service and they don't realize how they act to the rest of the world at all, but its okay because sometime they will learn the hard way (at least thats how I justify being surrounded by these people on a daily basis). I had one miniva going nuts on their horn behind me yesterday, had Ipulled out when they wanted me to I'd have been in the middle of 2 packs of traffic but they didn't care they just wanted, and wanted NOW! |
I was sitting in my car one afternoon, woofing down quizno's and I see this old bmw pull in beside another car. It was a very tight parking space. He proceeded to open his door into the next car. He looked at me as he shut his car door, smiled, and walked away. I was shocked. So, a few minutes later, the owner of the "dinged" car arrived. I jumped out of my car, and told her to check her passenger side door because the bmw had hit her car. She walked around, checked out her car, said, "yeah, he dinged my car". Then she got into her car and backed out. When I saw the side of her car, I understood WHY she wasn't angry. The passenger side of her car looked like someone had used it for target practice.

I find the best offense if a good defense. In my world, I can park pretty safely 95% of the time because I make sure I'm controlling the variables. I don't trust people to be careful...they obviously have other things on their minds. I've watched them abuse other cars....lesson enough for me.

I used to got really PISSED  @ people for hitting my car/doors, but I just decided that it is never going to go away. It really doesn't help that they make parking spaces so small, not that it matters for us, but those SUV's take up the whole spot and if there is one person that hugs one side of the space, the other cars have to move over and then the spaces get so tight that you can't open your doors. I used to have a 4dr Tahoe and one time I had to climb into my truck via the tailgate to get in. :) I used to park away from people until my car got broken into. It was an easy target because I was away from everyone and no one saw anything. Now I park as close to where ever I am going and just deal with dings than deal with a "missing" car.

My rant: In this "righteous" world we seem to live in these days it's absolutely amazing how many people who consider themselves as such have not one concern for their fellow man or woman. I shake my head at the damned fools every day.
Sorry about your MINI door ding. As for the shopping cart jacka$$ mentioned above, it serves them well. The parenting skills of many people hovers below less than desirable. |
As I tell my wife all the time "the more I deal with people, the more I like my dog" (except for Mini owners of course  )
|
Most people do not care about cars, so a ding or sitting a box on someone else's car does not bother them. It does not seem to occur to them that it may bother others.
I think this goes back to how they were raised. I was taught to respect other's property. That means don't touch what does not belong to you, do not cut across other's lawns, etc. I guess some people never learned that lesson. |
While driving home today, some lady in a Camry decided to change into my lane. No signal, no looking, just move into the lane while I was beside her:eek2:
After hard braking she just kept on coming, took an exit, and totally ignored me. She wasn't on the phone ... just a really bad driver. If I hadn't braked. Splat. Then I'm in the middle lane behind a commercial trunk. Driver throws a huge cup of something (coffee/coke) out his window in the middle of the road. He didn't hit anything but why aren't the cops around to see this crap when it happens? |
I for one, wish there were more CHP available. Unfortunately, the CCPOA (California Correctional Peace Officers Association - CA Mafia) always manage to get the law makers in their pockets, to continually spend too much of the state budget on prisons (largest industry in CA), and we don't have enough real officers looking for idiots on the roads.
When you have to listen to some bozo's car stereo booming from a quarter mile away, do you really have to wonder about the self centered, disrespectful attitude so many have? |
I have one to beat you all...
Ok, I was on a trip to New York A year ago, driving near Elizabeth, NJ and I was sitting at an intersection where a Elizabeth town police car was reving its engine and I said to myself what the heck is that guy doing.... he was with another cop and reving the engine then slaping the crown vic into drive, almost droping the transmission and the officer beside him in the seat next to him laughed right in front of my MINI. I said to my girlfriend I thought I had seen it all, it was like we were in a Thrid World country...I have been to Russia, St. Petersburg and have seen cops beg for money but a Police officer in the US beating the crap out of his own car(in front on 8 cars in line) on patrol both in Uniform. They did this about 3-4 times and I could see him reving and droping it into drive, this must be a bad area. Infact if i had a camera I would have taken a picture, but they could have droped the car into Drive and not have his foot on the break and hit my Car.
Now beat that:lol: |
And my husband wonders why I like dogs more than people...

Seems living in SoCal, this is where all of the disrespectful ones have ended up. Not just the parking lots, but the lane changes, the tail gaters, the no signal when making a right turn (or a left for that matter), forcing into on ongoing traffic lane from an exit lane (EB 105 to SB 605 for those of you in LA).
A bit I have learned about parking: Be patient. Take your lunch at 1:30pm instead on noon, that way the parking lot at your fav. starbucks isn't as jammed. Park in a space where only one side of you car faces another parked car. Like an end space, or next to the usually empty hadicapped space. Park as far in the opposite direction as possible from the other parked car. Don't pull all the way into the parking space. (this is actually in the MINI owner's manual). The MINI being small, cannot be seen very well if parked in between 2 ESSUVEES, and when backing out may be hit by on coming traffic. Don't hesitate to "fly the bird" when needed at other drivers! Food for thought. |
