06 MCS conv't or 07 MCS?

I've been a big fan of MCS for quite some time...reading the news of 07' MCS having turbo just makes it that much attractive to me.

However, I have no plan to part with my e46 M3, I was about to order a MCS conv't as a 2nd car...then I read about the turbo news and facelift. I do want a turbocharged car, but I also want a conv't...however, the new MCS conv't won't come out until 08' (?)...help me out. :impatient

Now that I've decided to pick up a Cooper, I can't wait any longer... :lol:

Other than feeling the sudden boost of the turbo output, what is the driving difference between a turbo and a supercharger that you seem to prefer the turbo?

Since you already have a coup and want a convertible, I'd either get the '06 convertible or wait for the '08. But it seems like you've gotten the itch to get one now (like I did when I ordered mine), so I recommend the '06. Additionally, the '06 has been refined over the years and its predicted reliability has improved over previous model years. The '07, with its new engine and its different mounting position, is too new to have reliability prediction.

That itch is getting worse, no?

I would NEVER buy a car the 1st year after a redesign or a a engine swapover. And you have both here. Sure it'll be under warranty, but there WILL be glitches they'll have to work out...wait at least until 08.

But the instant boost is nice, but the loss of the blower whine is sad....course if you can get a loud BOV on the turbo that might be cool....hehe

I have a feeling this thread will be high-jacked into a turbo-supercharger discussion. Hopefully not.

My understanding is that, because the supercharger spins as soon as the engine revs while the turbo spins only after exhaust gas hits it, the inducted power is delivered immediately with the supercharger (no "turbo lag"). You feel the "boost" with a turbo car because of the perceived distinction between the lag and the boost. I'm I on the right track?

Anyway, beckham23, get yourself an '06 convertible before that itch breaks into an open sore.

I have an appointment with my MA tomorrow for a 2nd extended test drive alone with an MCSC tomorrow. It's going to be sink or swim time to decide. I could leave the dealer with my mind set on the MCSC and get ready to place an order or leave a deposit on an order slot for an 07. I guess it's going to come down to:

1) do I want a cabrio now and then trade up to an 09 cabrio
or
2) do I want the updates in the new MINI and go with another tin top

beckham23, powerband... I think paulr hit it on the money when he mentioned trading up to an 09 cabrio.

I will be very surprised if the MINI Convertible is updated before the 09 model year. They only have 2 years of "mileage" out of this convertible model, and a 2-year lag between new coupe model and new convertible is not uncommon amongst car manufacturers.

I'd get an 07' Cooper with a sunroof and trade it for the redesigned convertible MCS whenever it comes out.

I wouldn't worry at all about the redesign and reliability. You've got a 4 year warranty. I'd much rather have the first of the new, new MINI than the last of the old, new MINI.

But yes, that itch is so bad right now...I think I'm taking the votes of getting a MCSC right now and worry about the turbo later...as you can see, I picked up my M3 last year knowing that new M3 will come out in 2 years or so...thus, I'm not one that always want to have the newest and greatest (though that isn't a bad feeling either).

I guess I can see the current MCSC would be somewhat more reliable since we all know about 1st year car, especially BMWs. You guys are EVIL, I should know better before I started this thread...will update you when I turned in my check to stealers...
