Runflat tire pressure is good but the squeal is there

Going around corners I've been getting more and more squeal as if the tire pressure was low but the pressure on each is 40 psi. I have the 17" run flats w/ 28,000+ miles on them.

Is the fact that my tires are worn down more now than when they had more tread causing them to squeal around corners more often than not?

I'm not driving like a madman. I'm thinking it's the hardness of the run flat sidewalls.

Thanx

Is the pressure on 17" runflats really 40 PSI?? On my 16" RFs the pressure inside the door says 30 PSI front and rear...seems like a big difference.

The runflats always squealed for me and as tires age and the rubber hardens, the squeal will increase.

You're definitely not driving like a madman to get such good mileage on those tires.

"the pressure on each is 40 psi"

definitely too high.

I have almost as many miles on my 17" runflats (31k total but some of that is on snow tires), and I've noticed more squeal recently, too.

Personal preference. I run mine at 40, deliberately. The max is 51 I think (something over 50), so there's still plenty of tolerance. I LIKE having my tires super-stiff - part of the reason I like runflats!

I ran mine RFs between 32 and 36 (it made the ride less bone-jarring and now squeal)

The squeal is normal with the runflats.
They are talking to you.. Enjoy the conversation...
That is one of the benefits I had with the runflats in a little driver school, the instructor told me that with the amount of squeal I had, it gives plenty of notice and changes in sound before the tires lose grip.

Thanks for the excellent input. Especially:

I keep my pressure at 40 deliberately. The max is 51 and I figured the higher the pressure, the less resistance with the road and maybe better gas mileage... It's not so high that I'm wearing down the middle of the tire tread either. My last tankful got me 400 miles down the road (with and w/out A/C, starts and stops too). I couldn't be happier.

Talking to you? Are you sure you don't own a "Smart-car" and not a Mini??

Said one track day instructor, "A squealing tire is a happy tire."

I don't get the 17" Goodyears to squeal much, but the 16" made me feel like I was constantly driving over a litter of pupplies.
Might make a difference which ones you have as well. The Pirellis don't seem to squeal much, even on the track.
