'06 Cooper CVT with 4000 miles. It's about 100 today. Was stopped at a light, a/c cranking. The car just died. Shifted to Park and restarted it fine.
Any reason to be concerned?

It's a new car, this shouldn't happen, if it repeats itself then obviously you need to take it in right away because it's a safety issue.
It's done it to me before. I was at a light, and I had two other people in the car, with the AC on. I hit the gas, and nada. The car stalled. I could restart it just fine though, once I was in park. Then today, it was very very hot, and I was at a red light, and the engine started to grumble a bit. But it passed quickly.
My '02 MC CVT doesn't stall after 4 years of daily service and 38K troublefree miles. The car gets driven everyday, A/C full blast in 90F+ weather and 85%+ humidity.
Your problem is the controlling ECU software or one of the electronic engine aides such as the throttle body control, even possibly the engine wiring harness.
I don't think it is anything mechanical, rather electronic/computer issue.
Last but not least, dubious quality gas may be part of the problem. Try switching to a different gas station or brand altogether.
Take it to the dealer to see if the computer has stored an error code in memory after the stall incident.

I have an 06 MC w/CVT and I had a similar experience 2 days ago-very hot and ac on. So I just passed it off as that. But after reading these posts I am going to call dealership and have it checked since it will be there on Tues. Thanks for the info and please post any new info you find out, in case the dealership passes it off as well.

My '03 MC does this once in awhile. I just give it a little gas, or shut off the AC momentarily and the engine idles fine.

My 05 MC manual tranny stalls in extreme heat with the AC on as well. Very rarely tho and I can quickly restart it. It's only happened twice in two years and in the exact same conditions: running hard, AC on, VERY hot (95-105F and humid). I think i can live w/ that, im not concerned.
If it happened 2 or 3 times in a short period of time, I might take it in but the first time? It calls to mind mothers who take their kid to the emergency room the first time the kid coughs. Do you think you could suggest to the mother to wait and see if it contiinues without getting an indignant blast in return? Probably not. That's why I always wear Nomex.
I also have an 06 MC w/CVTwith 1500 miles. On Thursday, Aug 10 after having driven for about 40 minutes, I was at a stop light waiting for the light to turn green - with foot on the brake - car in drive and suddenly it just cut off. After experiencing about 3 minutes of shock while other drivers drove around me, I pulled myself together, put the car in park, turned the ignition key and the car started up again. I continued driving to my home (about 10 minutes away) and called my MINI service which sent a flat bed tow truck and towed the car to service.....about 40 minutes away. I was reluctant to drive the car that distance - mostly highway driving. It is now Wednesday, Aug. 16 and my car has not been returned. The service manager said that the car has been gone over to determine just what could be the cause for the car cutting off. So far he says nothing has been determined and that my car will be returned after an extensive test drive. I plan to drive my MINI to Cape next week-end - an 8 hour trip from where I live. Hopefully, my MINI will check out to make the trip up and back.
