Friends(?) calling my MC names...Any ideas on retorts to smash this disturbing trend?

I have 3 fiends...excuse me, 3 friends (?) Who out of jealously, I'm certain...keep referring to my MC as a volkswagon wanna be, a bmw reject and worst of all...the wind-up car. I've never even commented on their hugh gas guzzler trucks that each woman drives exactly 1 mile or less to work each day. Besides the obvious dream of keying each one's car, what else can I do? :impatient NOT ONE has agreed to a drive in my car to see the difference a Mini could make in their lives and yet, they persist in being small minded people. I'd like to hear some ideas on revenge. Oh Huh Yeah... not revenge...perhaps, retorts of a revenge nature?

They don't sound much like friends to me . I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you're happy with your MINI, that's all that matters

Friends come in weird pkgs sometimes. I'm thrilled with my Mini. What matters is: I'm weird too and would really like to get back at 'em!!

Some 'friends'. First you made a great car choice. I have owned others and this is the best I have ever had.

Use the gas mileage to your favor, save $ and buy something nice for you and your mini!! Perk yourself up.

You're right, they are jealous. They shouldn't knock it until they try it.

That's hilarious. Must be rubbing off. More power to them in the teaching dep't though- that's gotta be the hardest age to handle.

Put yer friends in the passenger seat and take up some twisties until they hear the whine, smell the rubber, and see the light.

I believe that years of constant contact with 7th and 8th graders have deranged ea. and everyone. Why else would they make fun of my Mini?

I mentor kids and...

One thing we go over with the kids I mentor is a concept of QTIP. The idea is quit taking it personally. When people make fun of you its not because of you, its because of them. If they don't make fun of your car its your hair, if its not your hair its your dog. People make fun of people, its a part of life.
To me its the same thing as people calling the MINI a chick car (the thread that just got cancelled). We've talked about it before. You get the people that say don't care (me), the people who talk about SUVs sucking, etc, etc.
All in all there are much worse things to worry about. Or maybe your life is just gravy.

While I do agree, sometimes the jokes from others just get tiresome when they don't know when to quit. What may begin as a little needling, becomes just that much more stress in a life, that probably doesn't need anymore these days.

Ok, the F150 photo might sway their opinion. But I just want to state these crash tests cannot be used in direct comparison between two cars of different weight. The MINI will NOT look like that after a head on crash with a F150. For the reasons read www.iihs.org

As for friends who make fun of your choice of cars, have a sense of humor, take them for rides and scare the crap out of the in the corners

you could show them this:

http://www.mini2.com/forum/attachmen...4&d=1152817623

a picture of a MINI used by the police dept in Munich

or you could be confrontational with those losers and ask, not angrily but in a detached kind of way, " if you had something that was imortant enough to have spent a good portion of your money to purchase and really enjoyed it, and someone, suposedly a friend, repeatedly kept on making fun of it, how would you feel? ".....at which point they probably will be evasive or try to make a joke.....but stand your ground and repeat what you just said and ask not how they would reply but how they would feel and make your friends really voice how they would feel and don't back off until they do reply to how they would feel

Or, if you like the concept of law enforcement MINIs and want something a little closer to home (at least on this side of the pond! ) you can show them the MINI "Copper" from Pittsburgh:

While I completely understand where you're coming from, sometimes the most effective thing is to ignore the jokes - but to continue enjoying your MINI and letting it show - but not so ostentatiously that it is off-putting. Whatever you choose, best of luck, and let us know what works for you!

Just like the chick car, gay car, clown car (i forgot the wind up car) comments, this has been rehashed a million time. In fact, one of our members has a big wind-up key for the back of the car. Its great looking.

So, I will ask the usual question.

What do you care what your "friends" think? Do you NEED their validation?

IF, you do, you are in for misery because your playing into their hands and you will hear such comments (chick car, clown car ... forever) from more than just your friends.

IF, you don't, move on because you will have the last laugh. Your money, your car, your fun.
