I opened my boot and with it open I punched the button a couple of times to show
my son how it worked, now it won't latch. Anyone else have this problem?

Welcome to MCO, dseaton!!!

Sorry, I don't have the boot latch solution for you. There are some boot latch experts here on MCO that should be able to help you out

Welcome aboard! My boot latch just went the other day. As far as I know there are no quick fixes for it aside from bungee cording it closed like I have done until I can get it to the dealership for fixin'. Lots of people have had this same problem.

Actually...if anyone DOES know a quick fix....please let us know. It will save me the time of going to the dealership as I am moving to Northern Virginia this weekend.

Hi,

If I remember correctly when my dealer went over the features on my car he told me that the boot latch will get stuck somtimes. He said to fix this is to pinch the latch area like you are opening it when your closing it to get it to relatch. I haven't tried this yet since I haven't had any probelms with the latch..yet You both may have tried this already, but I thought I would just mention it.

For some reason I am not very good at explaining things when I type it, So scroll down and read what vespa said, since vespa explained what I was trying to say perfectly

It happened to mine yesterday.
I did the tried and true American thing: Push any button I can, turned ignition off and on, pushed every button I could, turned key in door...after about 10 minutes of scientifically fiddling it relocked and is now working fine. Go figure.

My motoring advisor said that the switch on the boot gets out of sequence with the rest of the locking circuit. I have had luck locking the car with the remote, then unlocking the car (clicking twice) and then pressing the boot latch switch. Other times I have had it catch after pressing the boot latch a few times without locking and unlocking. It all depends on the phase of the moon. As always, remember to hold your tongue on the *left* side of your mouth while performing this operation.

Thanks Guys for all the info , But I got it. After removing the back cover that surrounds the latch I simply pushed the small plastic(white) tab to the left, it clicked
and all is well. Took @ 5 min. Thanks for all the responce MCO is GREAT

Mine does this all the time. Has nothing to do with the remote. I can be loading/unloading stuff and just repeatedly opening/closing the hatch and one time it will go haywire.

Solution: Close the hatch, hold it closed, squeeze and hold the handle for a couple of seconds (it'll click twice and latch halfway). Then you can squeeze the handle again to open it and then finally close it normally.

Thanks Vespa.

I too have been haunted by the latch ghost. I like your solution.

Hey guys! Thanks for the suggestions! I messed with the lock yesterday when I was at the gas station and the problem corrected itself! I guess the planets must have been in the correct alignment!

Thanks for the 411 on this. It may come in handy (pun intended).

Happy Motoring!
