.....on Friday driving down to northern Virginia. And what happens right after I get there? My freakin' boot latch goes! So after 10K virtually trouble free miles, I have my boot bungee corded shut and I have to wait like a week before I can take it in to get it fixed.

Oh well....I was always wondering if that was going to happen to me after seeing it happen to so many other people!

YAY L.Mini!!!

Almost two thousand posts and ten thousand problem free miles. Sorry to hear about the boot latch, but by next week it'll be better than new.

While you have it at the dealer, get the 3.1 software upgrade if you haven't already. Even if you think your CVT has been performing well, you'll be surprised at how smooth it is in lower gears after the upgrade. Just my .02

This is exactly what worries me about keeping this car beyond the warranty. If this can happen at 10k miles, it can certainly happen at 55k miles (and again at 100k miles...) There are just so many things on this car that are dependent on the computer/electrical system to function, and 99% of us are helpless to diagnose and repair that stuff. Once we're past the warranty, we're at the dealer's mercy with these things. How much do you think they'd charge to replace a boot latch? I guarantee it's over $100. Sorry to hear your story, L. Hope everyone carries around some twine or a bungee with them!

Feeling punchy (noticed my first door ding this weekend!),
Chris

though I'm curious where you got that window-sticker... it's very grin-inspiring.

It's a boognish - revered demigod mascot of my favorite band, Ween. Apparently he doesn't guard against door dings, but my boot latch works so far!

How long does it take for the upgrade? And does it cost anything? I was going to try and do it next Monday since I already requested off for that day. I would love to get it while I am there.

The upgrade shouldn't take more than an hour. It's under warranty. Just call the dealer this week and tell them you have a CVT and you're having problems with a low-speed shudder and occasional jerkiness (sounds like a MINI with Tourette's syndrome). Then they'll do the "fix" for you.

... you can probably tell from my posts that i suffer 'occasional jerkiness' too ... oh, well ... small price to pay for occasional brilliance ...

Congratulations on getting to 10,000 big ones, Lauren! have fun with the next 15k ... and remember that the 'focus' of your motoring should always be MINI!
