Silly kids.

I get a knock on my door yesterday. Odd. People don't knock on my door. I have few friends, and I always know when they're coming over.

I open the door, and there's a 10 year old tying his shoe on my doorstep.

I said "Hi, can I help you?"

He looks up at me and says "Mister, can we wash your car for six dollars?"

"But it's clean."

"Is is?"

"Yeah, look at it. Isn't it shiny?"

"Yeah"

"..."

"..."

He walks off and I close the door. I peek out the window and him and his friends (who didnt have anything to wash the car with mind you) are still gawking at the Mini, and then my wife goes into the rant about how cute that was an what an **** I am. Hmmm...

Well, I wash my car often. And I don't want some neighborhood kids on my hoopty. And I don't want to pay someone else to do a crappy job and probably damage my car.

Wouldn't this have turned out worse than an auto wash!?! Adios mio!!!

Maybe you should have asked him if he knows any other bigger kids that like your MINI........

Nope, the only people allowed to wash my MINI are me and my dad.

My parents are always asking me to make it a fun activity for my sister and I, and it always ends up that she holds the hose until I need it, then I buy her ice cream or something as thanks.

I won't even give the kids doing fund-raising car washes (every single weekend it seems) the time of day. I've seen what they use and until they upgrade substantially I'm being a total Scrooge.

I won't either. You can bet they don't use Zaino products. However, if one of the neighborhood yard rats wants to learn how to wash a car properly, using my Zaino products and my towels in my driveway, I will be glad to give them a lesson.

Being a parent of a young delinquent, I admire the 10 year olds for getting out and trying to do something productive.

But I would not have wanted them to wash my MINI but I would have tried to come up with something for them to do for six bucks. Like wash one of my other cars or wash my dogs or mow my lawn (more than six bucks). I would feel the need to reward the entrepreneurial spirit.

On the other hand then it may just turn out they needed money for cigarettes or something worse.

Now thats an idea, pay them $6 to pick up weeds, or trash, or sticks, or give my dog a bath or better yet, i'd pay $8 for him to give my 8 year old tom cat a bath .. break out the video camera, AMF here i come, nothing like a wet cat attacking a bunch of delinquent boys.

Once I get my MINI, I won't even trust my 49-year-old parents to wash it.

Looking at it again, I do kind of feel bad that you had to turn down aspiring young capitalists, but then again, it is your shiny, clean MINI.

I think my son is about your age. I would not trust him to wash my MINI. He does not drive it either.
