I say go ahead, drive as crazy and reckless as you want
to however old you are...

Just STAY AWAY from me and my MINI!!!!

This thread is just a nice reminder of the consequences.
I'm just happy to say it wasnt ME that fool crashed into
and pleased I'm not posting photos of my crashed MINI.

What the heck are you guys talking about? Understeer vs. Oversteer?
*does some research*

The way i see it,

The mini Understeers, that means it first looses traction on it's front
wheels before rear wheels in a turn. I guss that would makes sense
being that all power is on the front.

My Mustang Oversteers or is "loose" because it's back tires are the
first to break loose in a turn. I call it power turning, or breaking loose.
I do it on purpose all the time. It's lots of fun.

Relating to the crash:
UKDragon's (Clover's) Mini was carving the curves while Mr. Mitsubishi
3000 GT Twin Turbo VR4
was smashing the gas when he started to
experience some Oversteering. So much so he lost all control of his
back end and much of his front end resulting in A Smash, Crash
and SPLASH!

This reminds me of an incident I had on a run up US Route 1 from SF to Oregon, not far south of Mendicino. Not everyone needs to be driving a sports car to be a moron. That part of US Route 1 isn't as twisty as 128, but there's not much straight road to speak of, and virtually no place to pass. It was early morning on a gorgeous day and most motorists were great about pulling off when the MINI came up behind. I'd stay a couple car lengths back, they'd pull over when they got the chance, I'd wave, and everyone seemed happy. Except for this one gent in a new club cab Dodge Ram truck. Instead of pulling off, he sped up. I stayed behind a couple of car lengths. He sped up a bit more, puffs of smoke coming from the rear tires as he pushed it around the curves. I stayed back a couple car lengths, wondering when he'd let me by. A mile or so of this amidst killer curves, and suddenly, at the bottom of a full switchback hairpin, he skids to a stop w/ no warning. I'm not sure just why he's steamed, as he had plenty of opportunities to let me by and it's not reasonable that I'd have to do mile after mile at his pace. At any rate, I avoid him and continue past, speeding up to MINI's pace. One turn later, I look in the mirror, and all I can see is a big Dodge grill, think Duel w/ Dennis Weaver. He's RIGHT on my tail and I guess he wants to make me squirm. I start hitting the curves a bit quicker, checking my mirror. Meanwhile, he's doing everything he can to get back on my bumper. Finally, I look back after another 15 mph bend, and the truck has spun out and is completely sideways in the road, blocking both lanes. Thankfully no one was coming the other way. At that point, he must have realized how ridiculous a thing he was attempting, because he gave it up. I was both amazed at his complete disregard for the laws of physics in favor of machismo, and glad that no one got hurt because of it. Straight speed would probably have given him the edge, since his truck had way more horsepower than my MC, so the twisties helped to prevent a needless road rage incident.

Your confusing a different post with a casual comment made by another poster and the accident itself. No one was talking about UKnuts car.

All MINIs come from the factory with inherenet understeer due to the small rear bar. Most everyone's first suspension mod is to go to a much thicker bar to get the car to neutral or induce oversteer for the track. It has nothing to do with this accident.

BTW, if you try to make your Mustang oversteer at 10/10s, your going to end up in the bushes as well as recovering isn't al that simple on a RWD

Sequence, you got to remember the RED mirrors make the GP so much faster, you will forget all about steering

Wait, i only got half of that... i think.
I didn't konw exactly what under/oversteering was so i looked it up. It's
over rated in my opinion. Just know how to work your car and it's limits
and you're fine.

Not sure what 10/10s is. I haven't been in the bushes yet. I don't break my
rear wheels loose driving fast, just powering out of turns. just
enought to get a swoosh feel and then let it grip again. ...

That brings us back to Pirelli's man theme:
Power is nothing without control. I don't care what car you have, if you
lost traction at the speed Mr. Mitsubishi 3000 GT did, you're going into the
drink just the same.

Off topic: Speaking of Pirelli, have you seen their web video yet?

Another way to look at it:

Understeer: A car's tendency to want to go straight even though you're turning the wheel.

Oversteer: The cars wants to turn more sharply then you intend with little steering input.

That is just a way of described how fast your driving in relationship to the friction holding you to the road on the curve etc. Its old sports car talk ....

At 10/10s you are literally at the limit of adhesion ... any faster and in your in the weeds. If your racing, you better be near 10/10s because everyone else is

At 9/10s, your OK but any loose gravel, any rain, any more speed, etc, and your in trouble

I would bet that most ppl thinking they are driving FAST in the twisties are comfortable at 7 or 8/10s. Below that, and your cruising.

Granny in her 1950 Ford is doing 1/10s at 40 MPH on the Interstate

As to over and understeer gromit got it right or in old racing terms ...

understeer is when you hit the wall with the hood
oversteer is when you hit the wall with the trunk

chows4us, that's some good education. =D
Mustangs don't talk too much about twisties. Mostly just power and how to get more power.

Last weekend at Giants Despair Hill Climb, '69 Mach 1 gives the local TV cameraman a ride up the course. Mustang hits a patch of oil and does a 360. Skid marks are not only found on asphalt.
