R50/53 Vibration with AC on!!
Vibration with AC on!!
I have a 2005 Mini S, Convertable with 6speed Auto
Mods to date: Milltek Header/ Milltek Catback
15% M7 reduced pully
I am experiancing vibration with the car when at Idel in Drive. With the A/C running I am getting such an extream vibration I need to put the car in nutral and raise the rpm to 1000
The car vibrated alot without the AC running untill I adjusted the Idel RPM to 750. This fixed the non AC operations.
I dont know of anyone with this problem with a manual trans. is there anyone out there that has the same or simular problem?
Or any solutions?
My local Mechanic that I trust cant figure it out and I am at a loss.

the dealer has been good about overlooking the mods, said that the Milltek exhaust is the problem. I have had it looked at by a few people and it isnt the exhaust. I was hoping maybe someone has simular mods with the auto trans. maybe they can help verify in my mind that it isnt because of the pulley.
i have similar problem; over here our normal ambient temp is 30- 34 degress C( 86-93 degrees F ) so we have the air con on whenever we drive; in fact; air con is a standard items for cars in our region; at normal idle at 750 rpm, the vibration is ok; however after 1-2 minutes at idle in a jam or at a traffic light, the idling rpm goes up to 1000-1100 rpm; in neutral, the vibration is still bearable; however if u r in D or R, the resonance vibration is so strong that my passenger always ask if there is something wrong with my car;
BMW Asia refuses to acknowledge the problem till the Service Advisor showed him in their own demo car; in fact, to my knowledge, this prob affects all auto copper S with air con; all the demo cars in the show room has this prob; even the JCW auto ones;
BMW Asia have been collecting data for the past 3 months and u guess it, i was told to wait for software upgrade;
this prob happens to me at high current load ie air con on, zenon on; i noted that after the idling rpm goes from 750 rpm to 1000rpm; it will not come back down unless you throttle past 2500 rpm for 1 to 2 second or off the air con;
so now that it is summer over your side; i think more auto cars will have this prob; to test; just sit in your auto S for 3 minutes at idle in D and air con at full and wait for the idling rpm to shoot up to 1000 rpm by itself; then u will feel the vibration;
any one with any solution welcome; thanks
cos i have this resonace vibration 365 days a year;

I never ran the AC before the mods so I don't have a comparison. I did notice my idle RPM runs 1000 with AC on.
I doubt if it is your Milltek. Could be the pulley, may need a different belt, who knows?
My RPM does not ramp up to 1000 with AC running. Maybe that is part of it.
I have another appointment with MINI next week.
I will post what is found if anything.
PS: anyone have problems with the rear tires wearing out way too fast?

Noticed mine about a year ago. Determined it to be the exhaust hanger worn out. With the Miltek guys, I would read through billswebspace.com, he noted a necessary mod to the new hangers to satisfy clearance issues. With mine, the exhaust shakes or vibrates a little bit ( no more than any other small car I've owned ) and is just barley touching the car underbody near the backseat. Only happens when AC on in park or stopped, or climbing a hill at dead slow speeds.
You can simply (with the appropriate hand protection ) grab the exhaust tips while the car is being noisy (running) and steady them, move them about as there is a bit of play and you may find a sweet spot where it goes away. if so.. its the exhaust hanger(s) are bitched.
