The problem is that the floor isn't shaped right.
No the problem is actually the positioning of the front seats that can eat into valuable rear passenger foot room (When pushed back) and the upright BMW 3-series like front driving position.

Have you ever been inside a Classic Mini? When passengers go into the roomy back seat, the WHOLE entire seat tilts up, unlike the recline/slide configuration in the current car.

Also the classic MINI has an upright, steering wheel column that creates a bus like driving position. When Rover/BMW designed the current MINI one of the first things they wanted to do away from the old 1959-2000 classic Mini was the bus driving position and introduce a more upright BMW like seating.

The floor shape has nothing to do with it. Actually, the MINI is a very roomy car otherwise once you are seated in the comfy back bench.

Also you have to consider that 2 door cars have this inherited problem. I have yet to come accross a 2 door car that is 100% comfortable to climb into the rear seats.

Your idea may sound good in paper but in the real world with the current R50/53 MINI platform it will never fly.

This is why MINI is working on the upcoming R55 MINI Traveller 5 door wagon with rear suicide doors that will address the rear access complaints for those of us that will in time need a more family oriented and friendly MINI but will retain all the goodness of the current 3 door car.

this would be a good idea but seeing how i never ride in the back of my mini i could care less how about what my friends complain about. i will admit that the only time i did sit in the back was on the dealer test drive, and yes it did suck getting in and out
