Road Rally for local charity - Help

A local civic club that I am in, is thinking about doing a road rally in order to raise money for some children's charities. This will not be a speed rally, but rather a fun event, like a poker run, or a "solve the puzzle/mystery" drive. Has anyone done this and can offer advice or information?
