Tearing windshield wiper

The passenger side windshield wiper rubber is tearing near the top of the blade on my 05 Convertible. Is this easy to fix? Where do I get a new one? Is it covered under warranty and is it even worth it?

Well, I'd say that it covered under warrany. Thats also part of the maintence (sp?) program. Depending on how far away you dealer is, I'd go.

I just had all 3 replaced under warrantee. Coincidentally, my passenger side was tearing as well.

Do

I need to make an appointment? How long should that take? I'd love to be able to run over to the dealership get it replaced and head out in under an hr.

It shouldn't take them more then a few minutes per wiper to replace them. Definitely make an appointment though. If they are busy, they might not be able to get to you right away.

Another option would be to simply replace the blades with something better. I have the silicone PIAA blades. They perform much better and should last for several years! They're pricey, but worth it if you live in an area with lots of rain.

Edited for a few typos.

Wiper blades are covered under the maintenance plan... I make it a point to get them replaced whenever the car is at the dealership for any service.

Do they make the PIAA silicone blades for the rear wiper?

I've had mine replaced twice under the maintenance plan...no cost. I like taking advantage of the free stuff, especially because my dealer is pretty close by...and I get to lust over all the brand new MINIs while I'm there.

I noticed last time they left about 1 - 1.5" of extra wiper blade flopping about beyond the end of the arm/holder. It seems to help w/ that tearing on the end by reducing stress on the end of the blade. Just a thought........

Nope, at least not that I could find. You can't even get one with a spoiler for the driver's side. Fortunately this doesn't appear to be an issue at freeway speeds.

Was driving back through KS yesterday and ran into a downpour. My passenger wiper blade came apart during the storm. The metal strip started coming out of the rubber and whipping on the glass and roof top. Stopped as soon as possible at an underpass to check the damage. Roof paint scratched some and was able to put back together for the rest of the trip home. Will see what the dealer does for this one.

i think that just replacing it yourself would be the best thing...taking it to the dealer and having them do it would be more of a pian in the but than its worth..

i just replaced mine with the Trico teflon blades..they are 10 bux each and mount right up to the wiper arms.
