SAE and the 101 MINI parade

I did not see this posted yet, sorry if I missed it.

Great event in Detroit today, SAE, BMW, MINI USA, and our local dealer MotorCity MINI put together a 101 MINI parade down I-75.

A couple of weeks ago, Diane from MCM started contacting everyone around here with a MINI. Well, we ALL showed up and it was fantastic.

Starting up in Troy, MI we gathered at the SAE headquarters. From there the Michigan State Police actually shut down I-75 so we could all get on. We had the left lane all the way downtown. We must have been stretched out for miles, what a sight!

Once downtown, more police blocked the side streets as we made our way to Comerica Park (the new ball stadium). Big photo op and then inside to the Tiger Club for the most fantastic brunch I have ever seen. A real first class affair, there were several food stations manned by chefs serving the finest cuisine.

It was beyond the beyonds.

MINI and the SAE really know how to do it up right.

This really was the coolest thing. Having not been to the Dragon yet, this was the most MINIs (and Minis) I've ever seen in one place. The incredible brunch was more than anybody expected; shrimp, crablegs, mimosas, chocolate covered strawberries...you name it!

The leader of the parade and guest speaker was Jim Kenzie; winner of the Targa Newfoundland. His stories were fantastic!

I think that's my friend Christian's mean Mini. She's set up with 18" and Brembos and probably holds the record in Michigan for miles logged...over 140k I believe. I'll see if I can dig up some pics for you...

Here's Christian's car. I don't think he'll mind. I was just telling him that I'd like to do a real shoot of it; it's a great looking car and you'd certainly never know it's got 140K miles on it.

Mark

I took a whopping one photo of the congregation of people during our 'drivers meeting' then got totally distracted. Glad to see that others were able to stay focused enough to capture the event... including that shot of Grimace's booty up there ^^
