Who cares about the original subject...
we got us some SMACK going now!

Matt

But back on topic. I always thought that Bau-haus look was always better from the outside. The coupe I was in had really limited visibility. But there's tons you can do to the 1.8T motor!

Quote: I was thinking about a TT or mini in Jan.
In bay area, cal., Audi dealers are pushing really
hard to get rid of their TT inventory, I can get a really
good deal if I decide to get one, almost 7-8000 dollars
below MSRP, they are not demo cars!!
But I choose a mini and have to pay full MSRP.
Do I make a good decision???
they're completely different cars so really depends on what you crave.
the quattro's nice to have though if you're in the wet/semi-wet climate
areas.

but MCS's are hard to beat too... in terms of price and performance.

I totally disagree...it belongs in OT:Autos where it currently resides. Good call I say. This can be a great and valuable thread...let's see more comparisons here!!

Sell a Z4 to get a Mini

Seems that Mini Talk is not the sole land of just mini stuff.

Flav also had a thread there on thinking about buying a TT.

NONE of them were moved to OT:Autos!

You'd do better PMing someone then railing away in the thread, which brings the thread even more OT. Personally I don't see why you care where it is, I think its fair to say that many people just refresh new threads to see the action like I do anyway - so if people contribute to the thread it will come to the top. Besides people interested in reading about other cars will click on OT auto.

Forums are interesting, people just want to be read it seems... I understand on the one hand but see the logic of the choice of decisions here too.

Anyway, since you compare the gearbox between the two, have you driven an 05/06 MCS and if so how does that compare to the TT?

I've always loved the looks of the TT but have heard not so good things about them performance & driver satisfaction wise since they are quite heavy.

i breifly drove a 2005 MCS but not long enough to give a solid comparison between the two. the regular coopers 5 speed is much more notchy than even my 2004 MCS was . as far a weight as far as i know the TT weighs in at 2,921 not much more than a loaded MCS.

I bought my wife an Audi TT Roadster (convertible, no rear seats at all,) after she realized how much fun I was having in my MCS. Anyway, I've driven both a lot, and worked on both, and paid for repairs on both. I'd have to say my experience is almost diametrically opposite to that of flav. I will have to compose a response that addresses most of the questions and issues he raises, but in the end I'm glad I have the MINI and she has the TT!

cheers,
phil

i bought my MCS for its fun factor, not utility or practicality (?.. being practical).
so from a fun perspective i think the MCS and 350Z can out do the TT very easily
in its own different ways. MCS cornering. 350Z torque!

but flav mentioned he has one car to do everything, so in that respects
the TT with quattro will come ahead of the other 2 for sure as an all-round
decent car, i think.

But can you get a load of Pergo
flooring into the TT? And all the plastic sheeting? And the table saw to do the whole kitchen floor?

I really don't know, but when I took that load to my MCS at a home depot, a lot of the SUV/Pickup crowd gave me some funny looks.

Bloated pig. No wonder it feels more "solid."

I had a TT Roadster before the MCS and have to say the TT is a better cruisemobile with its cushy ride and scrumptious "baseball" interior. No the TT isn't a sportscar like it's direct competitors (like the S2000 or Boxster) even though it resembles one in shape. But it is fabulous for driving around aimlessly, and always in high style. It has a sporty feel so long as it's not pushed too hard, like a Lexus SC.

Part of the appeal of the MCS is the very opposite: it is a high-performance car that resembles an econobox, with few pretensions.

My early example TT almost always had a festival of lights on the dash including the CEL (the dealer admitted "they all do that" in 2001, and sure enough the demo's CEL was lit too); maybe they've gotten better since. And if you were appalled by the low resale of the MC, just try to price a two-year old Audi now...

Oi! It needn't be such a big issue. Anyone who clicks 'New Posts' or 'Today's Posts' will see this thread along with all others. It makes sense to be in OT: Auto. All those other threads should have been moved here too.

I'm a MINI/Audi owner. Love the MINI. Love the Audi. Glad you're happy with the TT.

No, Kenchan... you seriously had me going there -- pondering what a TT wagon might look like and who on earth would want one.

I feel much better now -- like a sense of peace.
