I know they do a lot of track testing and driving to/from the many cargo carriers but my MCS arrived at the Texas dealership with a full 16.0 miles on the clock. Where'd they drive it? How many miles did yours come with? Should I be concerned that the car sat at the dealership for a week before the 16 miles were disclosed?

When I picked up my MCS and the day before I was told that it would have 7 miles, and when I recieved my MCS it had 13, so I dont know what to tell you, mine is still working great, and I have had only one problem which is the cold start problem and I got it fixed, with that being the only one compared to everyone else I have a great mini.

If you've watched the "process camera" video from the website, you'll see that there is a little test track with bumps, a climb, etc., on the way out of the factory. What d'ya suppose would happen if the driver/tester encountered a problem as he took the car out? They'd have to drive it back in to a discrepancy station, repair it, and take it out for another test and then deliver it. That might double the miles.

On the other hand, MINI dealers will occasionally take a client out in a particularly outfitted car to give them a feel for a particular option.

Just a couple of thoughts.

My car arrived with 6 miles on it. Of course it now has 20,650 miles. So put things in perspective. 16 ain't bad. I bought my Jetta with 80 on it. Obviously the car had been test driven a little. No biggie.

14 miles here (now have only 43 , thanks to the horrible weather here in central CT). Between the test drive, VPC and dealer prep, it seems about right...

No, if they only put 16 miles on it in a week I don't think that is bad at all. If they had been using it as a demo there should have been a lot more than that on it.

But then again maybe all 16 miles were done 1/4 mile at a time at your local drag strip. Break-in milage

Mine had 14 miles on it when I got it and I thought that was low.

My baby had 11 miles on it upon delivery which is how it came from the VPC. I know that no miles were put on it by the dealer as it first came in Friday evening and I was there at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning to get it and waited for it to get its first bath. So I would think 13 is not so unusual. Besides, I understand that some of the cars are randomly track tested off the assembly line to check quality control procedures so your car may have simply gotten a better "going over." I've had new cars with both more and less mileage than yours - I wouldn't worry about it one bit - just enjoy the ride.

Mine had 54 km's on it when I picked up my MCS. Thought that was a bit high. I was told that it was parked in the showroom from the time it was delivered, until I picked it up. I'm hoping I can take the dealer's word on that. But so far, no problems other than the coolant issue, which I took into my own hands to solve.
Cheers,

What did you do with the coolant tank issue?? I had mine replaced with the new tank and flushed.

The coolant tank on my MCS is all right. But the coolant itself went murky brown with a hint of orange. So I had it flushed on my own dollar, and had Ford Motorcraft coolant put in instead of the BMW/MINI coolant. So far so good. No color changes, irregular temp readings, etc. Checks out great.
Cheers,

The dealer has to mve it around a bit to get it prepard, they could have noticed something and taken it around the block to double check... but less than 20 mile i wouldnt even think about...my MCS had 4 now 8 weeks later 8000 heheh w00t and my last new car had 12 off the lot...

Thanks folks. I'm only half-suspicious of the dealer, the other half of my concern is that there was a flaw discovered at the factory that required further testing. At the rate MINI is pumping these things out, it seems like they wouldn't have time to put 10 or 15 miles on each car (that's about an hour of driving on the test track) but apparently they do.

Your replies have helped to ease my worries, especially yours MINI-MadMan. I'd be mad too if they put that much time on my baby. Even madder if they did it in metric

Mine had 14 also, but she had to be loaded and off-loaded from two ships. She was custom-ordered and I know it's 4 miles from the dockside "maternity ward" here to the dealer.
I also got her 3 hours after she was taken to the dealer so they didn't add much.
I imagine there was a fair amount of driving on and off trucks at Oxnard and Long Beach, too. Oddly, the trip odometer had 7 miles on it and the speedometer's odometer had 14. Perhaps the trip one is reset after it leaves Oxford.

I had 8 on mine. I was told by my dealer that a mini can have anywhere from 3 to 22 miles on it at time of customer pick up.

I used to do engine development work for a major car company. We would do plant start-ups and if we found a car with a problem it would sometimes have 50 or more miles on it before we got it sorted out. We would of course put a sticker on the window indicating that the vehicle had been selected for this audit.

Maybe the tech preping the car found a problem and needed a few miles to find it. 16 miles is no big deal! He may have saved you a trip back for repairs.

7 months and 2900 miles but 10,000 smiles!
