People's Opinions
Why don't people keep their opinions to their selves? There is another MINI drive here (s) and he stopped to talk today, I told him about the new JCW I was buying, and without batting an eyelash he proceeded to tell me what a bunch of crap it was, and how I shouldn't buy in California
. Well I just let him ramble as he always does, and told him I was going to buy it anyway. Don't people understand that you are entitled to be different, I don't care where he bought his, I am so excited about the MINI I am buying, why can't they just say congratulations and leave it at that. I am smarter than that, it only bugged me a little bit, that's why this post. Okay I feel better now. Thanks for listening.

Ouch, very bad form on his part! I had something similar happen once which I've mentioned on NAM a while back. I won't go over it again but it, too, involved very bad form on the part of a fellow MINI owner. (pm for details)
I'll speculate that MINI enthusiasts go through phases...the "God, I love MINIs, I know everything" phase, and eventually the "I do know a lot and now understand MINIs" phase. The more one knows MINIs the more one is forced to respect the many diverse and valid ways of approaching the car. From the race track to the grocery store, MINIs do it all very well, thank you. I've seen this maturing in my local club and even within the NAM community, too, and it is a delightful thing to see.

I get the same thing... he was just jealous
as for the buying in CA part... he was trying to save you $$$ and get you a faster production date.....

So my MA told me that in HIS opinion, the JCW was not worth the money because of the mods you could get on your MINI for much less expense...but that was HIS opinion. I didn't buy a JCW, but that doesn't matter...I was never considering one, although they sounded sweet. Don't take to heart your co-worker. It doesn't sound like he's giving you reasonable or friendly advice, he's just demeaning your decision to buy a new car, whatever that car is. Really, it's YOUR car, and if the guy is being rude about it, then, well...he must have some jealousy issues or something, as others on this thread have mentioned. Show us pics of your new ride when you get it!
Some people are just know it alls, he was just trying to show off in his "I know better then you" way - and in his twisted perspective probably thought he was helping you with his words of wisedom (all the while being envious)
You of course know better, that you can buy for MSRP in Cali and get the car you want your way, so keep up the good spirits during the wait, plan your future mods and drives, and forget him and his 'tude

Sandie,
Congrats.
Don't worry about what someone else said it only matters what you want. Tell him you will get what he thinks you should get from where he thinks you should get it from as soon as he writes the check to buy it.

No, don't get JCW and don't buy it in California. Each one on its own is a horrible decision, but together it'll cause the end of the world. Buy aftermarket parts and buy the Mini from one of the vendors online. Respect my authority. I know everything about Minis and I know what's best for you. Your values can't be that different from mine, so we obviously must come to the same conclusions. If your values are different, then they're wrong and you better get around to changing them.

from a new JCW owner to an upcomming JCW owner- you won't be dissapointed at all. The minute someone tells me that I coudl've gotten more for the money aftermarket is the minute that I laugh, tell that "uh huh, I'm really not concerned" and then punch the throttle.

who cares what they say. people just don't like people that have more
luxury whether it be money or time or just a better life in entirety.
you know who you are and if you're happy with what you're doing,
let them make a fool out of themselves.

Different strokes for different people as has been discussed in another thread.

see the above reply- however the JCW is a great car and I wouldn't listen to anyone tell me it's not. Now if they want to talk that I could've gotten more performance at 1/3 of the cost that's fine- however if I (or the topic starter) doesn't care about that I don't think any mini owner is going to claim it's a poor performing car (only that perhaps it's poor performing FOR THE MONEY- you take the 'value/money' out of it and you're still left with a little rocketship that's a blast to drive.

It has noting to do with a MINI or being a MINI owner. Some people just can't stand to see others happy with their own decisions. Congratulations to you, and to the other guy, I'm sorry he's a MINI owner.
When I was young I had all the answers, I was ALWAYS right!
And I would go to great lengths to prove it, so get the heck out of my way if you don't agree with me!!!
That was then... I am so much happier now, knowing just how dumb I am!
