I don't know what it is, some seem to have this idea and some seem to lack it: I just really feel like there is something special and different about owning a JCW car many years from now compared to a car with a range of mods. Is it shocking to think that some would want value and a MINI correct car years down the road, especially one that performs beautifully? To many, yes.

Maybe it breaks down to this: Mod for less money and more power = gratification NOW, JCW for more money and retain brand purity = gratification now and later? Some people just don't look at their cars as pure performance vehicles, and thus more goes into the decision than bang for the buck. I'd imagine if one thought one's car was JUST a performance specimen, one wouldn't have bought a MINI in the first place.

Lord knows I'm being swayed in both directions constantly. But not by people who put things down.

Congrats on your purchase.

Hmmm, what a nitz...anywho, i would tend to think that a car with the factory JCW on it will hold it's resale value better than some mix-match aftermarket parts here and there - those are the ones you want to steer clear of when buying used..so those that put stuff are their cars find they lose out the most in the end. Although I personally will be an aftermarket guru, but that's the route i'm choosing and don't really plan on selling my car anyway... Just enjoy your car no matter what anyone says to you

I predict that the JCW car will probably hold it's value better 15 years down the road - and it will mean the earth-shattering difference of getting $5,500.00 for it instead of the $4,200.00 the aftermarket car may fetch.

If you were talking about buying a real potential collector car, or a car with a performance package on par with an AMG or M, I could start to see the point. But the Mini - come on.

For what it's worth, regardless of whether your co-worker approves of your choice, he should be at least civil enough to congratulate you on a purchase you are obviously so excited about.

IMO neither the AMG nor M comes close to a 'collector' car. In fact I equate JCW more along the lines of Saleen in the mustang circles.

M3's are a dime a dozen, a JCW equivalent would be more along the lines of a factory installed/certified Dinan package ON a M3.

again just my opinion, but I agree about the cost and that wasn't a factor for me (the "value" aspect years down the road)

Who cares where you purchase your MINI, or what you have on it, you will be a MINI onwer in the end. Some people will try to suggest places or people/dealerships that they have experience that could possibly save some money but it is your decision not theirs as to the altimate purchase. Enjoy and keep smiling. Motor on!!!!

He was either a) jealous; or b) an idiot. There are people out there expressing their stupid opinion on everything from what kind of coffee you should drink to where you should buy your house. A buddy of mine referred to them as "sexual intellectuals" - PC for F***ing Know it Alls.

Not till June

Scooby, no they haven't even ordered it yet, Eastbay tells me they won't be able to order it till May, So I'm guessing late June maybe July. I am sure it will be worth the wait.

Why are you sticking with Eastbay? Any particular reason?
(as opposed to going somewhere, maybe out of state?)

People, as individuals, are full of sheit. When it comes time, I intend to trade for a JCW. I don't care what some of the above think. For example, my first MINI is a MCS40. Thats not the car I will trade. Its a keeper. Its an 04 and I (actually the SO) has a mere 7,000 mi on it. My 05, my dd, has 22,000+ since April. When I got the 40, there were threads about what a waste it was, how I could have got better value going aftermarket, how I could have just bought the stickers and blah blah blah. The stupid sheits missed the point. It's MY money and I got what I wanted. I'M the one thats happy and who cares about your "entitled to" opinion!:impatient In 10 or 20 years it may or may not be of "added value" but for those 10 or 20 years, I will have enjoyed a real MCS40. The same goes for you JCW owners or aspirants. Don't let the "unwiped" cast the least bit of doubt on what YOU did with YOUR money.

...on my soap box...

I am just tickled to death the I have a car that is mine, mine, MINE! There is no one else's name on the title, it's ALL MINE!

...and I am even happier that I have a MINI...it is an enxtension of my philosophy that I am an individual, and when you get a group of individuals together, you start to think outside of the box and exchange really great ideas....MINI demonstrates the concept of celebrating diversity.... diversity is good: keeps the "gene pool" from getting too shallow.

If that guy missed the point, then maybe he should be driving one of those little cars that look like the next little car (no names mentioned, but we know which ones they are...)

Okay, I'm done and I'm off my soap box...Mick
