R50/53 to get blue lapis/or not to blue lapis
I have got on order, although I haven't got a production date yet so I have time to change my mind, a Jet Blackw/White top and Bonnet Stripes Mini Cooper S.
I really like the look of the Lapis Blue Leather, but was thinking it might be a bit busy with my colour scheme. Either way I'm getting leather seats, just can't decide black or lapis blue. What do all my fellow Mini freaks out there think?
I have seen and touched the lapis Blue leather seats. they are nice but not impressive enough (At least for me) for the $1,250 asking price. Further, I have read complaints about the Lapis Blue seats here in MCO and MINI2.com as well. It seems that the material has a bad tendency to wrinkle and generally look worn out after a few thousand miles. Questionnable leather quality or fit? perhaps.
If I had to have real cowhide seats, I would opt for the black Profile seats.
Since I do not care for the overpriced leather seats choices in the MINI, I have opted for the standard black leatherette seats in our current '02 MINI Cooper CVT and I have also ordered them in my upcoming '03 MCS. I have had ZERO problems with our letherette seats, look great, easy to upkeep and seem to be of excellent quality..a match to the leatherette seating options found in the BMW 3 series.
A lot of people think that we have "Leather" seats and their jaws drop when we tell them that the seats are made of Vinyl!

Both seat choices look great, just depends on how "busy" you want the inside of your car to be. I have seen a couple of S's with the leather seats and have noticed a kind of "crinkling" that happens after a little use. It doesn't appear to show up as much on the black as it does on the blue.
My $0.02.
Good luck. The decision process is crazy-making, isn't it??

I have a PS w/ Blk MCS with a laipis interior.
I had to have the seat section replaced on the drivers side. The dealer did it without any problems/issues.
It looks terrific in my opinion...
I like even more a solid black MCS w/ the lapis interior, as I've seen one ...in person ...
It is absolutely ....beautiful...
May I add...i don't like stripes.... of any kind...
Peace,
D

I love my lapis blue seats, they look absolutely amazing and everyone's jaw drops when they see them for the first time. Also, the blue carpeting brightens up the whole interior and in my opinion also looks great. Not a huge fan of the space cloth myself..

I guess the blue carpeting would not look good in a jet black w/ white top, do think that is to many colours for one car?
Calvin, where was that picture of, I'm assuming that's you, and the classic mini taken?

I have a MINI Cooper S jet black with white top, lapis blue leather and blue carpeting. I think it looks great. Will post some picts if you like. By the way, one of the first pictures of a MINI Cooper S I saw that was jet black/white top and wheels, lapis blue leather, and blue carpet was a car BMW had at on display at a few car shows.

I have an IB/W (currently at the dealership) with lapis blue & white racing stripes and I think it's fine. The blue carpeting does ROCK and it looks very unique. I say go for it. But I am a bit partial!

Glad to hear your MINI is almost home. What other options did you get? HK I hope, it rocks. Sounds like we have MINI Cooper’s almost alike.

I have the lapis blue seats and love them. I know, VW only charges $800 for it's mono colored leather seating surfaces option in their golf platform cars, but $1250 isn't outrageous when you really shop around. Many cars in this price range you can't even get leather. Plus the dual-tone leather in the MINI looks so cool. I think your money's much better spent on the leather than the premium package, with it's ultra-heavy and noisy sunroof, silly MPG computer, and annoying mind of it's own a/c system.

To tell you the truth, I don't exactly remember the precise location in London of where that picture was taken.. In all honesty I was rather lost at the time..
