The same here

few VWs, always reliable, as a matter of fact, much more less problems than the Mini. but like I said, I will not trade the Mini for the new GTI, maybe the new R36, uhmmm, ohmmm, most likely yes

Well my only suggestion would be take one for a test drive and see what you think. I only have my sister's experience with VW to go on, and it wasn't a good one, warranty issues, so nothing really to add here other than that.

But I will say the R32 looks sweet, and if a nexgen one is coming out, that may be cause for a look.

I still have 2-3 years to go in mine, so who knows, they say the new MK2 MCS is going tobe a little larger and faster, i might end up getting one of those bad boys

I've got a '79 Cabrio with a built 8V, suspension, wheels/tires, etc. as a fun beater / beach car. I'm considering finding a coupe shell and transferring all the parts, the old VWs are lots of fun and very primitive so even a bonehead can work on them. For instance, I changed the head gasket in a few hours on mine with no help.

I drove the new GTI and wasn't impressed, it lacks character, kind of like an RSX. They also tend to have voodoo electrical problems that show up after the car falls out of warranty. That R32 is fast, but drive one back to back with a JCW MINI and I don't think you'll be very impressed, it's a fat pig with a very nice motor (best sounding "V6" ever IMHO) and a fluke AWD system for EVO/STi money.

Don't even get me started on the new GTI, it's one ugly car. IMHO, with every generation of the GTI, VW seems to forget the roots of the car more and more.
