I found this on some irish car site. I suppose it's an Irish version. But what would the function be? It's only on the right side. That little red thing... See?

wwwebb Feb 6, 2003 12:20 PM

The alarm indicator light.

Dang, I want a reg thingy, does it flash when the alarm is on???

TonyMaguire Feb 6, 2003 12:46 PM

>>Dang, I want a reg thingy

I'd rather not have a red thingy. But then again, that's just me...

minimotorin Feb 6, 2003 12:48 PM

Damn, I should read what I write.

Factory Installed anti-theft system. I have the "red thingy" on my MCS. When car is locked, it flashes rapidly for a few seconds to indicate that it is armed, and then at a ~10 second rate.

Every MINI should have a blinking red light.

FWIW, they're a dealer option now. For '02, they were only available from the factory. New MINIs now are prewired, and the dealers are installing them.

Its the Irish pride button, only availible in Ireland. Everytime you push it some some fat drunk red headed Irish guy moons England across the channel, then Laughs at the Scots for having the misfortune of being stuck next to them.

Why is it that the Irish guy is always drunk? Isn't this stereotyping...something
we should have learned in the previous Rice Boy posts is wrong??
Why, I am Irish, and haven't had a drink in years.
AA has been incredibly helpful with that.

Actually, it's an SUV warning light. It lets you know when there is an ugly, oversized vehicle in your way.

The dealer installed version which is the only version now available does not have the indicator light. Sorry folks.
The alarm installed at our dealership is aprox. $495.00, parts & labor.

Mini2Go Feb 7, 2003 09:50 AM

 I don't know yet if my 5/02 build is even pre-wired to accept the dealer installed alarm - but I didn't realize that it didn't even include the stalk light. I think that was the only "cool" part - the rest was pragmatic/safety.
