Phone charger doesn't work using cigarette lighter socket?
Picked up my 06 MCS last Friday and love it! Hate the rains we've had the last couple of days in LA though.
I tried plugging in my Nokia phone charger in the lighter socket, but it doesn't work. Anyone else have a similar problem? Just seems like it doesn't go in all the way. I wonder if I need to get a different charger that fits? Hmm...just realized that I haven't even tested the lighter  . Haven't tried using the socket in the trunk either... But anyone else out there who had a charger work in one car, but not in their MINI? Can I even get a different kind of charger??? |
was the car running?

My Nokia charger works fine in my MINI. I do have an actual Nokia charger, not an aftermarket brand.
Make sure the key is switched to the accessory position, the lighter won't work when the car is off. |
Yeap the car was running. Maybe I'll try the Nokia charger, I am in fact using an aftermarket charger right now. Thanks!!!

I've used several different chargers and at least one of them wouldn't work.

I had the same problem with my phone charger not working. At the first oil change, I had them check it. Turned out that the connection at the lighter itself was not connected - came that way from the factory. All the mechanic did was plug it up.
Works now. |
On my 05 MCS, the front lighter is a stubby so most accessories wont fit. The boot socket is regular sized. That's where I have to plug in my charger or any other accessory. I guess they needed the space.

I've had other cars where my Nokia charger (OEM) wouldn't work but others did - what I did was go to Radio Shack and buy a 2-into-1 adapter, and plug my phone charger into that. The adapter made good contact in the car plug, and the charger seated better in the adapter. Plus, you get another outlet to plug stuff into.
Actual results may vary. |
The socket on mine is loose, so I have to wiggle it around a bit until it lights up the phone.
Note to self...tell the dealer next Friday. |
