I know you all went through the waiting period. And I have only 9 long day left until I get my Mini. I have sat in them at the dealer looked at and touched just about every inch of these cars. I also can't stop thinking about the damn thing. But the one thing I have not done is test drive one. So I have no idea what the car sounds like going down the road or how quiet it is inside. Needless to say I am aching to get behind the wheel of mine as all of you can imagine.
How sad am I?

sndwave Jan 22, 2003 06:01 PM

And why have you not test driven one.

barky Jan 22, 2003 06:05 PM

You have a bad case of MINI fever! Other symptoms include drooling and yelling "MINI, MINI, MINI" whenever you see one.

Yucca Patrol Jan 22, 2003 06:22 PM

Don't worry, the lack of test drive will be meaningless soon enough. And, rest assured, many of us have suffered the same torment.

Fortunately, there is a cure, and for you it is going to take 9 days!

Also, what a wonderful example of the power of having faith in something enough to not need a test drive prior to delivery! I envy you.

Amen to the above! I test drove one, but that was three months ago...I still have a few weeks left to wait, and that drive seems like another life time ago. It does feel kinda weird. As mentioned above, the symptoms are acute, but from what I've seen they may linger after delivery. Uncontrollable urge to detail...things like that.

kjonsson Jan 22, 2003 06:49 PM

relax, it's worth the wait. I test drove the cooper before I bought the S. Make sure you bring a CD with you. I went crazy waiting too.

sndwave,
I looked at the Mini in the summer of 2002 and wanted one but at the time it wasn't going to happen. So I didn't test drive one because I knew I would want it even more.

I good to see you all know what pain I'm in, and I thank you all for your love and kindness. What would I do without you all?

mwbmini Jan 23, 2003 07:46 AM

YuccaPatro is right about the cure, but a word of warning.

There may be a side effect to the cure. You may not be able to sleep that night either.
You may not be able to stop looking out the window at it,
You'll want to go outside and check on it, possibly even sleep in it,
You will be up very early to go out motoring!

When I got mine, I was up and outside looking at it at 4 am, pinching myself, because I couldnt believe it was actually sitting in my driveway! My partner thought I had totaly lost it.

And, I dont know if theres a cure for the side effect!

Best wishes,

Matt

yellowdesmo--

I'm in just about the same boat as you...they're building mine now, and it should be just about a month until I get it. I though the waiting for the production number was bad, but know that the car will be finished soon is worse. Good luck getting through it...just know that there are others out here who "feel your pain."

Let us all know about your first drive!

Mini-Matt Jan 23, 2003 08:24 AM

I've got one worse. I HAD a mini and sold it in September of last year when a nice bag of crisp 100's and 20's were waived under my nose. I now have my 04 on order which will be here mid-march.

I lose sleep at night because I know what I'm missing out on. There are nights when I wake up craving the sweet sound of a supercharger. Nerver having one is bad, but I consider yourself lucky that you've never tasted the sweet nector of the MCS -

chrisneal Jan 23, 2003 08:27 AM

Unfortunately, the last couple of days are the worst, when it's actually at the dealership and you're waiting for the registration, plates, financing, etc. to go through.

I didn't take a test drive either, because my dealer simply doesn't provide them, but I knew that I liked small front wheel drive cars and stiff European suspensions, and I knew that I loved the MINI! It was even better than I had imagined to actually drive away in it! In a way, I envy you for still having that to look forward to.

Just getting a glimpse out of the corner of the eye. "What was that?"
When the wheel is turned, you can see the strut.
When you are inside, the smell is wonderful, and the seats are warm. (#3)
The bonnet and boot are perfectly shaped and proportioned.
Smooth, refined, mouthwatering feel.
Extremely fun to drive.
Having to wait forces the virtue of patience and heightens the amount of love.

Mm Hmmmm.

All of you have it. Or are close to getting it.
A whole new strain of disease - minitis - and I like it!
