I think you should probably think about what message you want to send before you type. The first page in this thread, your posts sounded like they were something a Mini dealership rep would say. Someone else disagreed, and suddenly you said they sounded like a salesman for Toyota. Wow, the hypocrisy. Awesome.

Then, you congratulate this woman on her son's purchase with some two-sided commentary. Again, nice backhanded compliment. You basically said "Hey, hope your son enjoys his purchase, bet he won't in six months!"

Lame.

I don't feel my comment was one said in an excited or heated tone. And since when does post count have anything to do with voicing an opinion? What, only people with XX amount of posts are able to respond to others' posts? That doesn't make much sense.

I don't know who you are and I honestly could care less.

Your little attitude is lame to say the least. If you have a problem, send me a PM and I'll seek to solve our differences of opinion like 2 civilized gentlemen.

None of my posts have been offensive or insulting. Everyone is free to agree to disagree.

rrattol- congrats to your son! I kinda knew it all along..Tc is
very popular amongst the younger generation and it's a very nice
package. Time to get some interior LED/neons and lowering springs!
that car can be souped up very easily.

Your son is grown up!

A PM isn't necessary. All in all, I was merely heckling you for speaking in a condescending manner to a few other people in this thread, no more, no less. It's good to see you love your Mini as much as just about everyone else here, but it's always a good idea to keep things in perspective. Not everyone will want a Mini, and you know what, that's not a bad thing. The Cooper isn't the most perfect car out there(objectively speaking), it's just a hell of a lot of fun for us owners, and it's natural for us to want others to experience that.

But sometimes, the TC wins out.

Take it easy, man.

Going back and looking, I believe you're right! There are so many female members here, I didn't initially want to assume that he was a he, since the first several posts make it sound like it was Mom posting here. Ah well, at any rate, the kid had a great time picking out the cars.

And like C4 says, who knows, maybe the kid will think about getting another car in a couple years, and it'll be one with an "S" designation!

I wonder if the tC is built on the echo platform as the xA and xB are. That would explain the similariities the Toyota mechanic saw.

Nope, it shares a platform with a European Toyota called Avensis (which could be very similar, of course).

Personally, I don't understand the appeal of the tC, but it seems to be a critics' darling, so I must just be immune to whatever form of desirability it offers.

The xA and XB share their basic platform with the Toyota Echo. That's why those models have a more utilitarian mission than the tC. I have not yet driven a tC but I have had the "misfortune" of driving a 2004 Toyota Echo sedan. Needless to say, I think a Golf Cart has better handling demeanor than an Echo.

I don't understand the "appeal" of Echos and Tercels. A new Echo almost approaches the price point of a basic and semi-dencently equipped Toyota Corolla, which is 1000 times the car over the Echo.

The Avensis is the smaller and sportier version of the European market Camry. The Camry we get here is a porky and poshy Japanese version of the Buick Regal.

The Acura TSX sedan is the European market version of the Honda Accord. Not related to the US Accord which is yet another rendition of the ultimate Buick family hauler.

the tC uses a 2.4 Liter VVT-i DOHC 4 cylinder engine that churns out 160HP stock. Given the larger displacement, the tC engine will initially have more torque than the 1.6L TRITEC in the MINI. What kills the tC is the suspension tuning and the overall vehicle weight which is around 3,000 pounds. Toyota TRD's division, sells an upgrade "Bolt on" Supercharger for the tC that allows it to gain 200HP. Honestly, I have not read reviews of the Supercharged tC and much less so comparisons with the MCS. I think the tC competes better with the MCS than the MC.

True the tc is not a MINI, but remember we are talking about a kid here.
I can see why he is interested in the Sicon tc. It is a good looking import with tons of "Tuner" Potential. Very important to the teens and twenty somethings. He is also at that stage where he knows everything and parents know nothing. He is most likely rebelling against his Dad's MINI. Also he is at that stage where numbers mean more. And lets face it... the TC has more HP than a MCS. So he could do better on import drag night at the local strip.... Though he would be better off with a bare bones MINI if he were to Autocross!

There is no question that Toyota/Sicon builds good cars And there is no question that they do let some lemmons through, just the same with BMW/MINI.

True that the Sicon will loose all resale value the moment you sign the sales papers. But eventually the MINI will catch up and loose value.

If my sons (4.5 and 2) were that age I would be happy if they expressed interest in either car!

The '05 Scion tC has 160HP stock and the '05 MCS has 168HP stock. Actually the MINI Cooper S has more HP stock, but the tC has more torque because it is a larger displacement 2.4L engine.

With the "bolt on" supercharger, the tC can be upgraded to 200HP. The MINI Cooper S with the JCW kit can be upgraded from 168 to 210HP stock.

To me comparing the tC with the MC is not a truly fair comparison.

DrDiff-
You think? I think he was being respectful to his dad while
he digested dad's point of view about cars and dad's useful
advises/consultation while he made his own decision.
I think he sounds grown up to me.

I don't think it was a rebellious thing at all. well, at
least in my mind it wasn't.

I was at an autocross a several months ago and the MC and tC were placed in the same class, H stock. So stock for stock, at least in the cones, the SCCA thought that's where the tC should be. And maybe so since it's kind of a porky car.

One of my coworkers has an xB and it's quite roomy. We used to pile into her car when it was time to go lunch. Another coworker in a different office bought one as well. Is a corolla better? Probably...would I buy a corolla, probably not. I don't think I would buy a tC either. But the xB, I would consider because of it's practical use and it reminds me of a Fido Dido. I can tell that I am not the Toyota targeted age group.

Anyway, it's interesting how many responses there are in this thread.

edit:
I was just thinking that a Toyota Matrix could be alternate car to an tC. Ah, maybe, not.
