Drove in the Rain and now.. code P0638 HELP!
My girlfriend and I just Purchased a brand new 2005 Mini Cooper S, we were driving on the turnpike in heavy rain at 40 MPH behind traffic, the car started to sputter... the check engine light came on and the car died. I pulled the filter and it was really damp and there was some water in the intake box. I pulled the intake pipe and there seemed like it was dry. I had the car towed to MINI but when i ran Diag. i got P0638 Throttle Actuator Control Range/Performance (Bank 1) ... can someone explain what that means? and hopefully then can take care of this under warranty. I dont think water damaged anything internally because when you try and start the car it seems like it wants to start and it sounds normal but after about 1 sec it cuts out.
any input would be nice.
Thanks Art.

bumpin a 16 month old thread...
i got this code recently too.
took it to the MINI tech and he said it was due to my HAI. said i should get an intake w/ a pipe on it...
seems odd since i ran the HAI for over 9 months and nearly 10000 miles with no problems. he reset it and 1000 miles later still no problems.
took it to the track one day and experienced lag on full throttle. just a split second but enough to cause me to start making excuses about my times...
a fellow motorer mentioned a possibility of heat soak but this happened at the beginning of a session... first green flag to be exact w/ one warm up lap.
i have the HAI, 15% pulley, Alta V2 DFIC, Alta header w/ cat, alta exhaust. no internal work... any ideas? TIA
