Need driver's side side mirror completely replaced!! $600 from MINI?!?

Does anyone have a better idea?? I'm in SoCal and can't really afford the $600 for a side mirror, someone must be able to repair or replace for less. Desparate!!!

What happened to your mirror? Is the the entire assembly?

upsilon23 Aug 3, 2005 04:08 PM

well the base of it where the line is has snapped in 2 thanks to a drug induced lady in Silverlake not watching where she's going, tried to chase her down but she looked at me like "are you holding some? " so I just let her go, thank god it didn't damage anything else. I wish I could just glue it together.
there must be a better option than paying $600 to have it replaced, someone anyone help me out. thanks!!!!

upsilon, sndwave's passenger sideview mirror broke its neck and he got a replacement from Classic MINI in Ohio. (NAM members get a discount there!) He paid $28 for the base part. The entire part should probably be about $220 through a junkyard. Call around! $600 is RIDICULOUS!

"entire mirror" is composed of many parts

click here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...72&hg=51&fg=10 and pick thorugh what you actually need, order it from classic and get teh discount, diy-i believe it has to be cheap enough to just buy the pieces you need, as seen in this illustration.

My mirrors covers get scratched up due to idiot motor cycle drivers here in Korea cutting between traffic. I asked my dealer in the USA about replacement mirror assemblies (Northwest Mini)and I was quoted $175.00 per mirror assembly. I went and bought some CF look mirror covers from the guy that posted a site in NAM. I got a set for $35.00. They look good, are cheap, and if they get scratched I can always get another set.

If you are saying that the point on the base where it swivles at broke, this is what happened to me.

You don't need to replace the entire mirror, just the base portion. You will then transfer all the other good parts to the new base unit. I replaced mine in about half an hour.

Getting the mirror cap off was the hardest part, but now that I've done it once I could do the job in less time if I had too again.

Total cost will be about $40 or less.

upsilon23 Aug 5, 2005 10:45 AM

where did you buy the base and all the stuff inside the base then? where are you located? I would happily pay you to do this.
