Warranty coming to an end...what to do.

I have 38,000 miles on my 2003 Mini. I have the extended warranty up to 50,000.

The dealer is great, and one reason why I keep the Mini (the service is fantastic).

I have had the driver power lock replaced, the passenger’s power window motor replaced. The famous dash rattles (twice in there now…still some rattle left but better) and the hatch rattle.

That’s about it other then normal stuff. Oh, and the rubber rope that hold the gas cap on, was replaced.

So with the warranty coming to an end in about 9 months (I put about 16 to 18 thousand miles a year on a car).

What should I have them replace. And should I? I’m not talking a moral issue here, just don’t want some 2,000 dollar part (with labor) to brake at my 55,000 mile mark.

For example, I know power sunroof motors are a lot (labor wise). Is it good to just have the swap it out now if I have only 2 problems in the past year. Go do dealers do more damage then good.

Also I’m going to be about 1,200 miles shot on getting on oil change (about 51,200 I estimate). Are dealers good about that.

My back brakes have 6mm left on them. Do you guys think it will go to 3mm before 50,000 so they will change those (if not what is the best way to burn them down)?

Also anyone having luck with the extended warrenty people? The one on our Audi sucks (they even tell the dealers to re-use rusted bolts).

Sorry my car is too new to give you good advice. I am impressed that you like your dealer's service. Would you mind mentioning your location if not the name of the dealer itself (people mention dealer's names all the time on NAM so it should be okay). So many bad dealer experiences have been reported that the good ones ought to be posted too. Thanks. Best wishes.

If the sunroof works with the motor it has it is just as likely to last the short time before you decide to sell the car as a new motor would.

Sounds like it's been pretty trouble free. I think I'd just try to live with the fact that the warranty is going to expire.

Or, you can drive with the emergency brake partially on, that should make something wear.

Good question. You should ask this as a poll to everyone who has over 50K miles ... anyone got a broken one?

Why would you think the warrenty covers normal wear?

As to extended warrenties, here is a good article on them http://www.carnutgarage.com/warranty/Warranty_3.html

Also your oil changes are only covered for the first 36000 miles under your service plan, Those go away the same time as your roadside assistance.

Brakes are covered under the free maintence program which is what i think he means when he says he has an extended warranty. Especially since the factory warranty goes to 50k miles and the maintence program only runs till 36k miles.

If your finances will let you trade it in for a new onw, or sell it and buy a new one. That's mu opinion and I think I will sell it before 45K and replace it with anew one.

Hehe, ok i'm correct and your not now hehe. How'd that happen, its an extended maintence contract not an extended warranty. The factory warranty is up to 50k miles, an extended warranty would mean you have till 75-100k of warranty.

Just trying to clear up the confusion.

Start buying parts....

to make it go faster and handle better! When I looked into extended warrantees, they are more restrictive than original are with regard to car modification (I don't know if that's legal or not..... but)....

So I didn't do it. Also, if you drive a lot of miles a year, it won't last you that long in time..... I have an 02, that's not even three years old, with 57k on it. A hundered thousand mile extended only gets me two years, and it was at or more than $2k.... That's a lot of parts.....

Matt

Corrected

Sorry about that it is an extended maintence from Mini itself to the 50,000.

I would love just to get a new one, if I only lost 4,000 grand on the car it would only expand my payments 1 more year.

I have not looked to see how much I can get and with all my add-ons.
