I have a few questions for you guys. Very basic questions actually.

First I'll give you the background (if you're easily bored, just skip down to the numbered questions, 'kay?)

I'm a pretty low maintenance kind of chick so I've been driving the same reliable car since right after college. My firm has given me some money to buy a new car and I've recently been doing some research. During this research I stumbled upon the Mini and it was kind of like Love at first site. The more research I do on the Mini, the more smitten I become.

I called my dad because he's more versed in car stuff than I am. Currently he has several cars including a sweet Austin Healey convertible (I'm the only one he's let drive it!). Anyway, I really respect my dad's opinion and he gave the Mini the thumbs up.

So...here I am...smitten with the Mini Cooper. Dad's approval even. Seems like kismit or something, eh?

So, without further ado (I realise I'm acting like a drama queen), I ask my questions:

1) I'm 5'11" My legs are long and wondering if it is roomy enough
2) My father seems to think that there is a greater demand than supply so will I have to pay a premium ?
3) If so, how much?

I haven't test driven one yet, but I plan to next week. The car fits my personality and, like I said, it's pretty close to the feeling of love when I see one.

On an unrelated note, if you're single and live near Dallas, I'm available for a first date

Thanks!
Jewels

Get the MINI - go for the S version.

You'll fit, you'll be happy, and you'll make new friends.

And Dad will want to drive it all the time. I hope you live in a different city!

Thanks for the reply, rygold.

I kind of hate you right now for putting that "My Sharona" song in my little head, but I am very forgiving

How much more than sticker am I going to have to pay to obtain this vehicle?

I'm 6-1 and there was plenty of room for me when I tested the S this fall, and I like to sit away from the wheel.

As to paying a premium, I've heard some tales on the forums here about dealers charging >MSRP. You can pay a lot more if you want one now. Here in the MINI-apolis the dealer sticks to MSRP but you have to wait a year (last I checked) to get yours.

Hey Jewels,

Your father is right about the supply/demand situation. I hear that things are getting better though. In my neck of the woods, there are only two dealers in the state. BMW of Nashville sells everything at TRUE MARKEt VALUE. That means it's over sticker, but they have them in stock. Roadshow of Memphis sells sticker. I have not read of anyone being able to buy the car at less than sticker-ANYWHERE.

At 5'11", you won't have a problem in the MINI. You will have a problem trying to decide which MINI you want. I bought the standard Cooper, but sometimes wish I had shelled out the extra $ for the S, but only sometimes. My MINI stops traffic everywhere. It really tends to slow the window traffic down a lot at fast food places, as all of the workers tend to gather around the delivery window to stare. Be prepared to answer a bunch of questions at any parking lot. Have you evr driven a go cart? If so, that's the handling of the MINI. One of the reasons I stayed with the Cooper was the distinctive grill. With the S, the bonnet is somewhat different. I liked hood scoops when I was younger. I don't believe the S versions come in the cvt (auto tranny), so if you can't drive a stick, you may want to keep your focus on the Cooper.

I do suggest that you opt for the sunroof. They are HUGE and extend over the passenger area. My kids love the sunroof and the MINI in general. You might even begin collecting the replicas. Don't be swayed by the 1:18 scale the dealers keep in their showrooms. There are plenty of replicas made by Maisto that sell for around $9.00-$12.00 everywhere. If you are smitten by pictures of the MINI, just wait until you have one in your driveway. I bought mine in Sept. and still catch myself looking out at it from the windows.

Best of luck with your decision & Go TITANS!!!!!!
Jim

Jewels - welcome to MCO

Have a friend 6' 8" 290 lbs sit in my MCS and it blew him away. He has to modify most of the cars he builds for a hobby to fit him.

As for the date, If you get it - they will come.

I'd give your dad the Mini & take the Austin Healey 3000.
Having owned both....the Austin Healey wins..hands down....NO CONTEST!!!!!!
As a matter of fact if your dad wants to sell his...I'm available

Peace,
D

Hey Jewels--congrats on the purchase!

Betty.

I have a thing for the name. I think Betty is a rockin' chicks name... it's so.... so.... BETTY!

And it's in line with sassy/moxie/yummy/etc. Cause Bettys are Bettys. Meow.

Although, I will state for the record that I think the car will tell you what its name is. Did you order or did you pick from inventory? If you ordered, you may have to wait for a telekinetic connection. If it's there, then you must listen.

i'm 6 feet tall and fit fine. Know a guy 6'5" driving one with no complaints.
demand is great, but some dealers do have coopers on lots. some are ordered and not picked up because of financial dilemmas after ordering etc. when i looked into ordering a cooper,i was told 6-8 months. held off. dealer called me a month later and said he had 4 available on lot and I sped to the scene.
take these tips.
a)don't go with whole bunch of options and you can keep price under 20,000
b)brightest colors are the safest so other people can see you.
c)if your thinkin automatic transmission forget it. standard trans only way to go.
d) navigation system, harmon kardon upgrade stereo, cruise control, climate control upgrade waste of dough.you will regret sunroof also. car much tighter and cooler with hardtop.besides, how you gonna put that big rebel flag on the roof if ya got a sunroof. Mini means lets motor. if ya want a vehicle full of options to drive the car for ya, go with a Lincoln Navigator.

Sorry yellocooper, but I respectfully disagree with most of your comments. I don't think anyone should generalize with such a broad stroke. What's good for you may not be so good for me. I love my sunroof, my NAV, my CVT, and all the other goodies! I don't mind that my MC may have cost more than some other people's MCS - I got what I wanted - except for maybe a few more ponies to offset some of the additional weight of my options!

Don't let anyone else tell you what you desire or what your priorities are.

jewels: For the record, I agree with OmToast about "listening" to your car - first you need to determine the gender!
