Cost of a New Windshield

I know there are several threads regarding windshields, but I am just for how much everyone has forked over for a new one. I have glass coverage on my insurance, of course, minus the deductible, but I am curious how much this is going to cost me.
I was just at my dealer getting my 30,000 mile checkup, and somehow I "lost" my engine underpanel, and my fog light was broken due to being hit by a piece of tire left on the freeway. Grand total for this visit: $500.
I am not looking forward to having this replaced, but I want to be prepared.
Any info will be appreciated!

I have a $100 deductible so that's what it costs me. I have no idea what they bill the insurance company, though.

Unforunately, I have a $500 dollar deductible, so anything less than that, and it is not worth filing a claim.

That hurts. I got the $100 deductible because I go through windshields on my F250 like no tommorrow.

I have to front the $435 dealer's cost before my insurance company will reimburse me.

So, do you recommend using the dealer instead of an outside company?

If the dealer is going to install an OEM windshield, I would go somewhere else. The PPG windshields that I've gotten in my truck last a lot longer before they break than the original ones. Make sure it's a reputable glass shop so you get a first class install with no leaks or windshield stress.

I'm in a small town and don't have a lot of options. I had the best shop in town replace the windshield in my old 320i and after the job they did I wouldn't let them clean the glass on my MINI. Plus they want over $500.

Also makes a differance in cost if you have the auto wipers.

One of the reasons I opted out on those. Windshields cost too much as it is. I am lucky to have a really good glass shop. Before I had the low insurance deductible, they replaced my Merkur XR4Ti windshield for under $400. Talk about an obsure car in the US. Never had a leak in my truck or Merkur even though they've replaced about a dozen of my windshields over the years.
